335/30 rivals on 18x11 apex for autox (or any performance/track driving)? S550

I don't autocross so I can't comment on how far you can stretch tire width but a 335 width tire on an 11" wide wheel is pushing the limit I would think. The 315 width I run on my 11" Apex appears to be the comfortable limit. When I ran a 305 on a 10" wheel there was quite a bit of sidewall bulge but it worked. The 335 will mount but there will be significant bulge and that will affect response and overall grip. Maybe the autocross experts can comment.

You won't like the 335 on an 11 inch wheel. Pic below is the 335 on a 12 inch wheel. Rivals are not terribly responsive to begin with and many like the 335 on a 13 inch wheel I have mounted one as a test on an 11 (I can't find the photo) and it was pinched a LOT.

18x11 with a 315 is the droid you are looking for. And they will fit under the fenders fine, but you may get rubbing on the rear sway bar depending on offsets.

I think if you wanted to go crazy with a 335 on a 18x11 wheel you would want to look at a 335/40-18, but you would have to compensate for the added diameter. Dont think you have enough profile with the 30 series tires on a 11 inch rim. 315 is a nice fit on the 18x 11s in any case.

Here are some of the Hoosier options

Perfect reply DaveW, thanks so much. Think I will leave the 335s alone.

Oh, I assumed we were talking 200TW tires which was a bad assumption on my part.

Hoosiers are whole different world. They tolerate and even sometimes respond well to pinched fitments and you also have to watch that some Hoosier sizes are very generous in measurements. I can't find the photo, but my 315/30-19 A7 on 11.5 wheels are basically as wide the 335 BFG on 12" wheels. They weren't pinched on 19x11 wheels, but they hung over the edges a decent amount. Hoosier width measurements are part of why NASA went to a go/no go gauge for tire sizing in classes. Otherwise, there were 10 inch wide 225's out there. :)

I still wouldn't do a 335 on an 11 inch wheel even in an A7, at least on the front. It might be an interesting experiment on the rear of an S197solid axle car on the rear that tends to eat the edges off the rears, but if I went down that road, I would try the 345 on a 12 inch wheel to get the diameter.

Anyway, assuming we were talking 200tw, none of those seem to like major pinching, especially the BFG. The Yokohama and Falken RT660 315 run wide and will be a little pinched on 11's but will work fine, IMO.

Here's how 335/30/18 R7's fit on a 12" rim.
I would consider this a minimum rim size for this tire.
13's would be even better. 11's I would stay away from.

Now folks, keep in mind the FabulousMan has some wideass flares and more , and not sure 12s or 13s would fit on many of our cars. I know I rub my rear swaybar, a tiny bit ,with 18x11s and 315 ratio BFG gforce R1s's. I installed a 1/8 inch spacer to get rid of that issue. I rub the crap out of my brake ducting up front, so keep things in mind about just how large you can go without other modifications?

Yes, 12's take a lot of extra work to fit. Not for average consumption for sure.
Just showing an example of the fit for a 335 on a 12" wheel.

Funny how now we look at 315 tires just ok :p... I remember putting 205/60-13 tires on our Golf mk1 and thinking that was super wide....Dam! feeling old now..
I remember when a L-60-15 was huge.
