Save the dawn for your dishes!!!
Just ordered some supplies on Adams today. LABOR12 discount code will get you 15% off and a free can of in and out spray on orders over 100 dollars.

Can you make up a list of some amateur essentials? I know you said Americana, but what about wheels, soap, etc? I really know nothing about this stuff ;D

Also and ideas on how to get caked on Hawk Blue off painted aluminum rims? Some people are saying chrome cleaner but others are saying it will kill the paint. It isn't for the Boss.

If you got nothing.
Wash bucket with a grit gaurd
wash mit
car shampoo
griots garage drying towels(2)
going with a kit like this is a great start
http://www.adamspolishes.com/p-570-adams-basic-wash-wax-kit.aspx

If you want to get the wheels and undercarriage looking good this is the kit to get you there
http://www.adamspolishes.com/p-516-adams-wheel-undercarriage-kit.aspx

If you want to step up your wax game get this kit
http://www.adamspolishes.com/p-566-adams-premium-shine-kit.aspx

now if you need paint correction this is a good kit to have
http://www.adamspolishes.com/p-733-adams-basic-porter-cable-7424-xp-polisher-kit.aspx

For the wheels with caked on brake dust try this along with a pressure washer (think of a trip to the car wash bay if you dont have one) I dont recommend using chrome wheel cleaner you will end up doing more harm then good. Look for a wheel cleaner that is safe on painted wheels. it will say so on the back of the bottle. I get great results in the past with eagle one a2z wheel cleaner and a pressure washer.

If you want to just get it all at once this kit is a great value if you can swing it will give you every thing you need. Just get good at it charge your buddies and it will pay for itself lol

Now if you want do the Zaino treatment thats a whole different set of items you would want. The adams is quicker and easier to use.

I think I'll start with the basic kit and add the wheel cleaner, for now. Thanks for the links. I have an electric pressure washer I can try on the wheels.

the basic kit is a great start. you will be ahead of most people car washing wise lol. I still cant believe there are still people washing their cars with......DAWN. only time to do that is if you striping your paint of wax to get it as clean as possible before you clay bar it.

I have seen someone I know spend an entire weekend waxing there car only to the following weekend wash it with dawn.....then wonder why the car "isnt shiny anymore"

They make a smaller version of the americana that is a little bit cheaper I would throw that in with that basic kit. the buttery wax is....ok

I use dawn all the time...on my wheels. Do you now prefer Adams over Zanio? I thought you put that Zanio $hit on everything? ;)

Dont DAWN the wheels!!! they are painted it will dry the paint out and eventually your paint will start to oxidize and look like matte black. Use a proper wheel cleaner like Eagle one A2Z or similar. It will work better and save your wheels. Put wax on your wheels it keeps the brake dust from not sticking as much. Then after you do that you can just use regular car soap on them (wheel cleaner will decrease the life of the wax coating).

Zaino vs adams...here is my take on that. No one company makes the best of everything IMO I like certain adams products over Zaino and vice versa.

Adams is great for the someone that like the look of wax (warmer softer lines) the Zaino will give you a different look just depends on what you are after. The zaino lasts longer.

So long story short I like them both lol

Jeez first you want me to wax my car more than once a year and now I have to wax the wheels too? :D
lol you will thank me in the long run if you keep the car for more than 5 years lol

Rumor is that wax on wheels will burn off if you track them, I use lard instead because I prefer that smell when they heat up over the wax smell ;)

Got my truck back from the body shop a few days ago, I don't know what wax they used but I can smell it sitting out in the driveway. I need to Dawn and rewax it before the smell drives me nuts.

you are right wax breaks down around 190 degrees or something. I put...can you guess?.....zaino on my wheels. I can almost hose off all the brake dust with just a garden hose.

What zaino products would I need to just do the wheels? Hawk Blue is a nutbuster to get off
here would be your min. you would wash with dawn clay rewash with z7 then aio then z6 wipe then z5 then z6 wipe
if you want to do three layers in a day you would need zfx
http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Z-7&Category_Code=Zaino&Product_Count=10

http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Z-AIO&Category_Code=Zaino&Product_Count=4

http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Z-5&Category_Code=Zaino&Product_Count=8

http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Z-6&Category_Code=Zaino&Product_Count=9

http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Z-18&Category_Code=Zaino&Product_Count=17

the more cost effect way to go would be get the kit plus all in one
http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ZKIT-1&Category_Code=Zaino&Product_Count=0

http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=Z-AIO&Category_Code=Zaino&Product_Count=4

then you got the stuff to do up the rest of your car along with the adams basic kit you will just about all you need save for some mircofiber cloths
