Airaid Intake

Hey guys, this is my 1st post here, but I've been reading for months. I have a question regarding the Airaid intake, I've read a lot of the posts regarding the 19HP gain, and how it seems that without a tune it's not realistic. But I really like the look. I was thinking that even though it might not post 19HP, it is still better than stock with the added benifit of the clean look. My question is that I've seen the carbon fiber version which is over 550.00, and I've seen a black plastic version that is around 335.00, just to confirm the difference in price is based on the carbon fiber and Parnelli Jones signature correct? Thanks in advance.

The ones for sale from the web site are not signed, that was a one-off available on E-Bay. As for the HP gain, I'd need to see it to believe it. That said I ordered one (CF) and it should be here tomorrow. If it increased it by 5 HP I'd do back flips. If anyting I'd guess itMAY widen the touque curve a bit at the low end, but thats just a guess. As for the plastic vs. the CF, My guess it's all for the looks and nothing more. Other guys here on the forum have had them for a little while but I don't recall anyone doing a pre and post dyno with the unit, CF or otherwise.

The CF intake is $508. The ones with PJ's signature for his charity sold from $355 to $910 for #15 of 15. They are sweet looking that's for sure but if you buy it for the added HP I think you'll be disappointed. Their HP chart fattened up the powerband from 4-7,000 RPM's but did not add to the peak HP. It works fine with TK and I've heard it might make the car a bit more responsive.

I spoke with a rep. from Airaid and he stated the only version for the Boss is the CF version. I asked if the regular GT version would work, he said it would require some modification to the intake tube due to the angle difference between the Boss TB and the regular GT.

Thanks for all the input on this, interesting that Airaid said they only offer a CF version, I checked with summit racing and they definately show a standard black plastic specific to the boss. I have a link below for reference (I hope that's allowed?)

The link shows this fitting the GT and the BOSS..... I don't think it will work with the BOSS.

Typically most of the 5.0 intakes will fit the Boss but the intake doesn't line up cleanly.

has anybody tried to replace the stock throttle body with a larger one?

I am thinking about trying the BBK 85mm throttle body with their CAI!

$500 for essentially a dressup part is too rich for me. It looks great, but without a clear performance advantage it's pretty hard to justify. If someone gave me one? For sure! ;)

I was talking with a friend of mine that is a Ford mechanic and asked him about the throttle body and air intake, he felt there wouldn't be a problem with the black key, but said the track key was a specific tune based on the factory set up.

He felt the air intake likely wouldn't be an issue, but thought the throttle body could possibly create a lean situation for the motor which could cause piston problems. He was going to look into it and talk to some of his contacts at ford specific to the boss and see what they say.

After reading that the engine adjusted for a complete exhaust system headers to tail pipe. I think it will handle a full bolt-on car without a tune. Its also been proven that u can run a CAI with trackey. And I would almost put money on it that you could run a full bolt-on car with trackey without any problems.

I just went and looked at the Kook's header post again. They did pulls with and without the trackey with full exhaust and the computer adjusted for it just fine...
