Any Drone with GT500 Mufflers?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

I'm seriously considering changing to '11/'12 single-tip GT500 mufflers as my next mod but don't want to do it if the change will result in any drone since I do a lot of highway driving. I'm currently running 5/8" side exhaust plates and may go to 3/4".

Do those of you running a similar set-up have any drone at highway speeds?

I use the GT500 mufflers with 7/8" discs and I don't notice any drone. It's starting to get a bit loud driving on the FWY with this combo and when I say loud I'm referring to be able to talk on my phone using my BT ear bud.

Yes, not to mention they weigh less. They have a louder and deeper tone compared to stock and no double tips. ;)

I have had mine on for about 14K miles and they just keep sounding better and better.

Does anyone have the correct part number for the '11/'12 GT500 mufflers? What's the best source? Tousley?

I have heard that Tousley has the best prices around, but shop around.

usually their shipping is what gets the cost up there. you can get them at latemodel restoration and using the discount code windsor you will get 5% off. $294.49 shipped

tousley wants 240 a piece

levittownford has them for 269.50 plus shipping which for me is 33 and change making it 302 shipped.

Thanks Ken.

The number you give above comes up as a 2011Mustang GT SVT muffler...

http://www.fordracingpartsdirect.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=M-5230-MGTCA1&Search.x=17&Search.y=7

It doesn't say 'GT500.' The Shelby GT500 mufflers on this page (M-5230-MSVTLA) are MUCH more expensive....

http://www.fordracingpartsdirect.com/SearchResults.asp?searching=Y&sort=2&search=GT500+Muffler&show=20

Which one are you guys using? What's the difference?

the difference is the link you have is the upgrade for the 2011-12 GT500's what you are looking for is the stock 11-12 GT500 mufflers.
http://www.fordracingpartsdirect.com/FORD_RACING_2011_2012_MUSTANG_GT_SVT_MUFFLER_SET_p/m-5230-mgtca1.htm
I have ordered these in the past and had them on my car. found them in tousley's site under ford racing.
http://www.tousleyfordparts.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=MorePartInfo&PartID=959230&siteid=214771&catalogid=5684
see how much shipping is for you but I am willing to bet that the link I gave you above to latemodel with the discount code is as cheap as you are going to find them brand new.

http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/item/M5230MGTCA1/2011-Mustang-Gt-50L-Ford-Racing-Gt500-Axle-Back-Exhaust-Kit
use that link apply the discount code windsor and you are done you will have them shipped.

now if you want the quad pipe look of the 2013 GT500's thats a whole other bag of worms and you need more then the mufflers you will need the lower valance as well. there is a thread on that on here of how to order it via tasca or tousley

if you want the 2013 gt500 quad tip look add left and right to the cart (item #6)
http://www.tascaparts.com/parts/2013/FORD/MUSTANG/SHELBY%20GT500/?siteid=213668&vehicleid=1504558&diagram=JC10343
and from this page add the rear valance (item #5)
http://www.tascaparts.com/parts/2013/FORD/MUSTANG/SHELBY%20GT500/?siteid=213668&vehicleid=1504558&diagram=JC10790

Thanks for all the info Justin. :)

My goal is to keep the car looking as stock as possible but I'd like to improve the sound - so I think I'll stick with the '11/'12 single tips.

I have my side baffles @ 3/4" & the GT-500 mufflers. No drone at all. Have had this set up for about 1 1/2yrs now. I didn't like the double tipped stock mufflers. Make sure you paint the back face of the GT-500 mufflers with hi temp flat black paint if you go with those, makes it blend in with the rear valance.
