Are these worth the price

Those are nice but pricey. There are places that have those wheels for a lot less. Try Toulsey Ford or Levittown Ford for much better pricing. Not sure if they'll ship to the UK but worth asking.

Are you planning on running a square setup? If you want staggered you can also look at Enkei PF01 wheels which are very similar in weight and construction and cost a lot less. I was recently at a World Challenge race and was surprised with how many teams were running the same Enkei wheels.

Thanks for the reply, shipping is not a problem as i have a forwarder ready for some larger parts for my GT and the Boss splitter!

I guess your question about the Enkei wheels which are 18inch opens up a whole can of worms:-

Is it better to run square or staggered

is it better to run 18's or 19's?

I guess a lot of teams may use Enkei just because of the price as i should imagine they have a lot of sets ready for swapping out!

The important thing for me isnt price but low eight and the right set up so i can carry more speed through those pesky corners

ian

Hopefully Gary and Pete will stop by but they run staggered Nitto NT555 II's on the Enkei's and they work very well for them. They run 9.5 and 10.5 wide 18" wheels with 285 front and 305 rear rubber. this is an excellent setup for the stock suspension.

I wouldn't be surprised if Enkei makes the BBS 302S wheels since they are made in Japan. Enkei has been making wheels for decades and their quality is excellent. They weigh the same as the BBS. I even had a set of Enkei's on my 1977 280 Z back in the day.

As Rick said I run staggered, 305/35 rears and 285/35 up front - Nitto NT-555R-II's. I love 'em. I am running a stock LS suspension with camber plates, which does very well with this staggered setup. The 305's in the rear put a lot of power down out of the turns and the 285's up front with -2.2 degrees camber totally removed understeer I was seeing with the stock wheels/tires. The 18" wheels and a 35 series tire up front also lower the tip of the LS air splitter a full inch, the car feels much more solid and better balanced on turn entry with the 18"'s. The PF-01's also save you 11 lbs per corner up front over the stock wheels.

Thanks guys

I guess i could go down that 18inch route as Pete is running and if i need the extra height i can always put the 19 stock wheels and tyres back on

:)

You know what, your right of course, i was just searching Boss 302 on e-bay as you do!

Im definetley liking the 18inch comments

Hint: The 302S runs on 18" wheels ;D

Update: Just to be clear, the 302S is sold with 19" wheels but they race with 18's. Tnx Rick ! ;D

Gary kicks my butt every time we're at the track, so take my recommendations accordingly.
I run square, 275/40/18, and recently 285/35/18 NT-05. And I have Sam Strano front/rear sway bars.
Why square? Lets me rotate tires to all 4 corners for max life.
I'd recommend Enkei 18x9.5 w/ 35mm offset. Here's where I got my second set:
http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=355&Product_Code=ENK-460-895-6535BK&Category_Code
Gary's friend drives an '11 GT with Nitto NT-01, 275 width, square, and those 2 are about equal on track.
Like looks of staggered and a little more rubber on the track? Staggered
Like the ease of rotating all tires to any corner for max use? Square
Both work. Both are fun. Look at pros and cons of both, and you'll make the right decision.

OK, i found a supplier for the Enkei no problem but nobody over here sells the Nitto's whats my next best choice Corsa's like the track attack?

Ian,

A very good source for the Nittos is www.discounttiredirect.com. Excellent prices, free shipping. I highly recommend them. I buy all of my Nitto's from them and they have been spot on with quality and delivery. These tires are well beyond the quality, wear-ability characteristics and performance capabilities of the Corsa's, which BTW are about twice the price as the Nittos.

Here's a link to each specific tire we use:

285's (Front):
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/tires/nitto/size/viewProductDetail.do?ra=%2Ftires%2Fnitto%2Fsize%2FviewProductResults&pc=40235&ar=35&rd=18&cs=285

305's (Rear):
http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/tires/nitto/size/viewProductDetail.do?ra=%2Ftires%2Fnitto%2Fsize%2FviewProductResults&pc=40236&ar=35&rd=18&cs=305

Not only do these perform much better than the Corsa's but they will last you twice as long.

HI Pete

I get your point, but if i cant buy them in the UK that means shipping them over, so that will be freight plus duty plus tax which could add 30-40-% on the price of the NItto's

thats why im asking what else could work

Not sure what price you would be paying for Corsa's in the UK, but in the US they are about $600 per tire for the 19" models. There have been a lot of drivers, including myself, that have torn up a set of Corsa's in only a couple of days at the track. If the Nitto's are not available them let me know what brands you typically do have access to in the UK, we can boil it down from that perspective. There are some Kuhmo tires that my buddy uses on his GT3RS that he likes very much, and he drives his Porsche very hard so I know they perform and can hold up decently.

The R888's don't appear to come in the exact sizes myself are Gary are using, however these may work. They will fit the same Enkei wheels we are using:

Ian - Here is an option I just thought of - Toyo R888 - I know if some drivers that use them and like them. Looks like they may be available in the UK.

http://www.toyo.co.uk/tire/pattern/proxes-r888

http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Tyre/Toyo/R888.htm

PS: Toyo owns Nitto, however I am unsure of how much they share tire technology.

HI Pete, i have been advised buy a buddy who runs a lotus to but the 888 but wasnt sure of his opinion as its a lot different car to a BOss, so this recommendation from you guys as a substitue to the NItto's is really helpful thanks

Run staggered with the Enkeis and am reasonably quick. Nittos over the Toyos in my opinion and unfortunately the really quick setup is with Hoosiers.

The other option , though, is Continental race slicks , which are run in the Grand Am series in the States.

You still might try calling TireRack in the US, but make sure you ask for Luke Pavlik ( ext. #362 ). I know he has mailed some rims and tires ( already mounted ) overseas for some of our customers.

I am running a square setup on the 302S wheels. I have Bridgestone RE11's in 275/40R-18 and the stock suspension. I found the balance suited my driving style well, and the tires help up very well in the front without even adjusting the camber.

Have a set of Hankooks with squared set up and frankly you will need to either do some work with sway bars or adjust your driving style. The back end is pretty darn loose with a squared set up and it can still be quick, but you will need to adjust your driving style in my opinion.
