As long as they don't arm them. Makes me think ED-209.

Brings Robocop to the next level and as JDee stated, Dunkin Donuts out of business. "Dead or alive, you're paying that parking ticket"..

Hah! When Sync5 comes out, it'll have "auto-ticket" - a new feature that charges your credit card every time you speed or run a red light. No need for traffic cops - your car knows what you did and you're gonna pay!

All this automation stuff is really starting to worry me. They're planning on getting tolls back in Ct ( after 35 yrs) on a lot more roads than the original I95 & Merritt parkway, using those hi-tech overhead cameras. I never had a front plate on my Boss but I assume that will have to change. What if someone steals your plate and puts on their car for a free ride for a while , with you paying the bill? Anybody familiar with these camera tolls? Do you get a bill in the mail every month? I always thought extortion was illegal..............but calling it road usage fees makes everything OK.

We have tolls like that. I normally only have the back plate on and the cameras take a front and back picture. I don't think you'll have to worry about it. I carry the front plate with me on the FakeR just in case. It's only an issue *if* you get pulled over for something else. They don't pull you over for just the missing front plate here.

They say driving is a privilege now and perhaps someday you'll have to pay to drive and sit in traffic.

Did just that heading out to my last track day. Sat on the toll road for about 40 minutes on a stretch that normally takes 4 or 5 minutes to cross even with light traffic. Still had to pay.

    It always was.

A rite of passage, perhaps, but never a right.

Latest news in the auto-car trend....Ford and Dominos pizza are in partnership to develop an auto-car delivery vehicle in the near future. The car will drive to your address and text you, you come out and enter a code that was texted to you and now you get your pizza. All this auto stuff seems to be eliminating Human jobs! Auto taxis, Grocery stores with no real cashiers...Amazon already has stores that let you take your stuff out with the swipe of your card. Am I the only one worried about how far this will go in the future? It's bad enough overseas took a lot of our jobs, now this is creeping in!

No, I'm not worried about it taking jobs. Every time new tech comes out people say it will take jobs.

They said the same thing about computers taking over typewriters. What will happen to the people employed to make the ribbons? The typewriter keys?

They said the same thing about cars taking over for horse carts. What about the blacksmith who makes the horseshoes? The whip maker?

They said the same thing about the lightbulb taking over the candle. What about the person who makes the wax? The wickmaker?

What does happen is that there is a brief time where the individuals who held the jobs replaced by the new technology are out of work, but eventually the market catches up and new jobs are created because that technology allowed it to happen or demand for a product shifted elsewhere due to new profits that the technology allows. It is absolutely necessary that some unemployment exist in the market because otherwise no one would be able to shift jobs to fill new openings and those industries would suffer as a result. The unemployed are not a homogenous group of people. It is a job pool that is constantly shifting as old industries die and new ones are created. There is, in fact, an ideal number of unemployed people (I believe it hovers around 4%-5% of the population in a given nation-state) because this allows enough flexibility for new industries to hire while not having so much unemployment that other industries begin to take profit losses due to decreased demand. 0% unemployment only exists in extreme socialist/communist countries who will literally pay people to sweep dirt and call it a job.

Long story short, don't fret about a job takeover. Worry about whether or not we have a market that is flexible enough (i.e. deregulated enough) to handle those shifts in the economy.

As a bonus, maybe my pizza won't show up all jacked up if HAL is a better driver.
