That has always been a problem, I can't come up with a short and yet descriptive name, you can thank Joe Aquilante for the "tire specialist" moniker.
No matter what I come up with, someone always thinks I sell tires, and I refuse to be called an "engineer" I don't have the degree and I'm not a poser.
I think "engineer" is the best description for what you do though - and I'd argue that your experience far outweighs the paper that some might think gives you the right to use the title. It would instantly eliminate the confusion about you being a salesperson that will come with just about any other title you choose. Don't let your modesty/humility prevent you from giving yourself a title that best describes your services.

No, Rob’s instinct is right. Unless he’s got a job with a tire manufacturer designing tires, that would not be appropriate. A lot of title inflation goes on in certain industries. This shouldn’t be one of them. Just sayin’.

Not that my suggestions would be any better, but I like the previous suggestion to include ‘technician’.

Sr. Executive Tire Guru might work too.

What about a word that describes a type of decision maker or something along those lines?
"Race Tire Controller" "Race Tire Control Specialist" ?
".... Authority."

Just a different way of looking at it.

He'll need CA-specific biz cards with the Prop 65 warning that lets potential customers know that race tires have been known to cause cancer.
That’s what the BACK of the card is for.

Since we've already gone there...

"Guaranteeing properly inflated rubbers from start to finish."

I'll show myself out.

I’m sure you could’ve worked friction, lube, and pressure in there. I dunno.

How about: "Proper Tire Management."
