They are too soft, weaker than steel and can't handle the stress of the track or horse power. The threads will loosen up and come off. They are just not safe....
Pretty much, they heat up and cool down, takes awhile to normalize, and the threads wear out. Sort of like carbon fiber wheels, looks good on paper, but no one I know of runs them in competition,. Even the single lug GT wheels use a magnesiun nut not aluminum. The ones we use are steel and coated with teflon and they take a beating from the high speed impact wrenches on pit stops, I just don't see aluminum holding up.
