"Is there a reason you chose red to represent the TracKey?"

"That was sort of an inside joke that came from our chief engineer. There’s a movie reference in there."

Beam me to Leguna Seca Scottie! :)

Hot off the internet...I'll add it to my other post.

http://www.autoblog.com/2011/02/24/2012-ford-mustang-boss-302-laguna-seca-first-drive-review/

Edit: so far this looks to be the best written, in-depth, accurate, article I've read. It also has some of the best photos and the second coolest video of the event.

"The result is that the motor is stable up to 8,400 rpm."

Say what?

You can take the blue pill (I think that's the color) and everything is back to normal. Or you can take the "red pill and free your mind Neo" or something like that. Someone did a photo removing the pills and inserting the two keys. It's out there somewhere.

I made reference in another post about two of the cars having roll cages and fully painted wheels. I asked fastautos from Autoblog about this and here's his response:

Me:
fastautos, did all cars driven on the track have the brake cooling ducts installed? Anything else? Also I noticed from photos posted there was a red/white Boss and silver LS that had solid painted wheels with roll cages in them. Can you shed any light on what was going on with those two cars?

Drew:
I know the Laguna Seca models had the brake cooling ducts, and judging from my photos I believe the standard cars did as well.

The caged cars were for the journalists that wanted to go flat out in the cars. Ford was also running the cars quite a bit when everyone was doing other things, so they could be serving an additional purpose as well. Ford hasn't really released any official lap times at Laguna Seca, at least not that I'm aware of, so my wild guess is that they were also using the cars to try and put down some really good times. We'll see if they come out with some numbers in the near future.

Here's all the reviews in one post. I'll add to it as more go live. Let me know if I'm missing any. Nothing from the big three magazines yet.

this link works...the article is good too (although it seems the author might not be the most tech savvy):

"It's not as if Ford Motor needed any more ego strokes this year, but the Boss 302 is a very good car. In fact, if there's ever been a factory Mustang that comports itself as well as this car, I will do Werner Herzog one better and eat both of my shoes. Actually, I'm already wrong. There is a factory Mustang better than this car: It's the more track-focused Boss 302 Laguna Seca edition. (I will be accepting shoe recipes by e-mail.)"

That makes the lap time difference even "smaller".
Agreed, I was just commenting on the “speed” of the respective tracks. LS is “small” compared to VIR and Big Willow. VIR and Willow are two rare tracks where you can top a 1000cc Superbike out…..and stay there for a few heartbeats at WOT.

Streets of Willow is a parking lot.

If I have it right, it looks like it's 220 vs 60 which is a HUGE difference. The GT500s came with a stock Goodyear at 220 and compared to the R888 and NT01 at 100 there is a night and day difference. Now go to a 60 tw and you're in Hoosier territory where the difference is even greater.
I've only ever driven one car with slicks on it. It was amazing! Had to keep the temps up though or you were on roller skates.

For the bikes a good track day tire like the Mechelin Pilot Sport is like a 200 rated tire. A Michelin slick is like running the 60's. The laptime difference on a track with a lap about 1:30 is about 4-5sec with a fast rider on board. The difference is AMAZING. Of course the slicks are only at top form for the first heat cycle and the "Sports" will last a two day track weekend.

Tires suck! They should be free! ;D

although the diff is a big part as well

I went with the T2R in my 2007 and am amazed at how good it is. I wasn't expecting much. I can feel it "working" just screwing around on the twisty back roads. It's lightyears better than the stock Trac-Loc in my 2010.

this must be the silliest single item I have read out of all of the reviews, lol...

"we have to admit a bit of worry that some customers might inadvertently dial up a 5 (full-on track) setting on one shock and a 1 (boulevard ride) on another. Having this error engineered out with a dashboard or console-mounted actuator might not be a bad idea."

Unfortunately all too true. You should have to pass a test to buy a BOSS. ;)

I think this quote will be disappointing to LS owners. Only one second a lap faster than a Boss on R compound tires.

"Lofty goal? During testing, with 2010 Daytona winning hotshoe driver Jonathan Bomarito behind the wheel, the Boss bested the M3 coupe’s best time by more than a second. The Special Edition Laguna Seca Boss 302 beat that time by another second."

I think it needs some Nitto NT-01's..............
