Keep the shiny side up & the rubber side down!
A track buddy sent me these video's of his new but yet undelivered Boss 302R. Not sure of everything being done to the car, but knowing this guy, no expense will be spared!

Enjoy:

He told me it's currently @ 407 WHP!

Can't wait to see this on track!

Cheers!

Nice but that's a 302S. Not that there should be much if any difference.

BLAZN BOSS

What really intresting is that 68 fastback on the lift in the background........looks like maybe a 68 1/2 428 car maybe? If so thats what needs to be on the dyno! ;D

Interesting...I expected slightly higher numbers from the Boss 302R cams. An isolated dyno result doesn't tell us a whole lot since all dynos read differently...however, it would be helpful to know what a "regular" Boss 302 puts down on this dyno. ???

It appears that the Boss 302S and 302R have the 302R engine...

I'm assuming the main difference is in the cams...

Street/S/R are all the same hardware-wise; not sure who thought up the part naming for those cams but that is what is in the stock engines. The differences between the engines are AC compressor (for the streetcars), and different oil coolers and engine calibrations for the S/R cars.

There's some confusion on those cams. Like AGT stated whomever named those parts is causing confusion. We were both told by the Ford Racing team that the 302R and 302S engines are pulled from the same parts bin as our cars and are the same engines omitting obvious stuff like emissions and they do have a different tune. It's possible that could have changed but I don't think so.

Interesting...and thanks for the replies. I posted the wrong links earlier but clearly there are two separate sets of cams for the Boss engine. Why would there be two sepate part numbers if they are the same part ???

Boss 302R cams - part number - M-6550-M50BR
Specs: 13mm lift and 263 duration http://www.fordracingpartsdirect.com/2012_BOSS_302R_EXHAUST_CAM_SET_p/m-6550-m50br.htm

Boss 302 exhaust cams - part number - M-6550-M50BEXH
Specs: 13mm Lift - 290 Duration

Clearly the specs are different...I think there is more here than an inadvertant naming mistake...

The actual dyno sheet from this car would be helpful...then we could compare the power band from the "race" Boss to a "street" Boss so we could compare the RPM ranges where these two sets of cams make power.

My S has a stock motor with a larger oil pan, the R motor is sealed but I don't know if there are any internal differences. The higher rev limit is apparently due to the Ford Racing harness. ??? Don’t ask me, I’m only repeating what I was told. The tunes are different but can’t be changed.

Have you dynoed your car by chance? I'd love to see the graph...

Beautiful car BTW, do you have a show-off or picture thread anywhere?

The motors are sent to Roush for sealing for Grand-AM GS. Not sure what the scoop is on the cams but unless there was a change all three motors are the same. Ford has stated that many times and are very proud of the fact that the street car uses the race motor.

I would imagine that the race cars use an offroad header/exhaust set up? If so, I am surprised that the dyno is reading so conservatively low?

I have seen gains in the 30-40 whp range with long tube headers on the 5.0 Coyote...an offroad exhaust set up on the 302R motor should dyno well over 400 rwhp. OP, what type of dyno was this?

Great info...thanks for the link and pic!

I recently bought a 2012 Boss 302 and am in the process of learning everything I can about this incredible car. I am a convert from the import scene...I have much more experience building Hondas.

Are the Boss race cars required to run OEM headers? I'm just curious because it looks like the offerings from American Racing trump the OEM headers and produce gains all across the power band. I've seen alot of other street Boss 302 cars dyno right at 380 rwhp, so it looks like the ~20 rwhp bump comes mainly from the catless exhaust? Not bad. :)
