Boss 302R in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge

The Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge got underway this week in Daytona. The Boss 302R finished in 2nd place in the season opener behind and in front of an onslaught of BMW M3's. Will we see a repeat of 1970 when Parnelli Jones won the 1970 Trans Am series? See the link below for the results and schedule.

Nice! That's great to see. I think I'm going to go nuts waiting for my car. At least we can hopefully see some cars coming off the line soon. Here's to production starting next week!

I read on another forum that the 2012 Mustangs were just given the blessing by Ford. I don't know if that includes the Boss.

Just to clarify the picture and links above are to LAST YEARS race not this years race. The Boss 302R finished 2nd this year surrounded by 6(!!) BMW's and was on the heals of the lead car. Set your DVR's because the last 6-7 laps are some of the best road racing I have seen in a long time as Scott Maxwell moves from 5th to 2nd and picks off the top BMW's one by one. It was truly a sight to see......

Here are some video's from the race:

Thanks for the links and the 302R sounds awesome. I wonder if that's what the Boss 302's will sound like without the attenuation discs? 8)

I was aware the last two links were from last season. Second place in the first race is an excellent start to the new season.

The 302Rs don't run the side exhaust, have no cats, and dump into some sort of race muffler. I doubt the street boss will sound like that.

Also I already peeked at the results for the race, can't wait to watch it in a week or two on SPEED!

Thank you for not posting the results in the thread title!

This year, all of the Grand Am GS races will be broadcast in tape delay. I very much enjoy watching them BEFORE I know the results, but invariably someone always posts the results in a thread title to spoil it for me. I think this is the first year that I have been able to avoid that for the Daytona race.

It was a very good race, too bad for those two late cautions. I think Scott had Plumb's number! And I hope Jack Jr. can finally finish the Daytona race one of these years. It sounded like he was physically okay because they said he had been released from the care center and was back in the Roush garage area. But I never heard an explanation for his "off"? Anyone know? Did he just go in too hot and get in the marbles or did something fail?

Also, Dean and Seafuse looked to have a top 10 car 'till they got rear ended going into T1. I think the Boss 302's look to be pretty competitive. It will be interesting to see them on shorter, tighter courses as several drivers said their cars handled better in traffic than alone at Daytona.

It should be a fun season.............

Agreed...The cautions killed Maxwell's chance, but that's racing. Sometimes it all comes down to luck.

No idea what happened to JRJ but that car is probably done for. I think ROUSH Perf. can afford another one, though. And I agree about Rehagen. See previous comments about luck, however.

Edit: Sounds like brake failure:

I haven't heard of any other 302Rs or 500Cs having brake issues, so I'd say it was an isolated incident.

I just finished watching the race, there was some great tight racing. That was a hard hit JRJ took. It was nice to see Joey Hand out there mixing it up. I raced karts against him back in 93' and 94' in the KT 100 class. I'm 20+ years older than him and was spotting him about 40 pounds. Needless to say he always smoked me and was one of the fastest kids on the local kart circuit.

Seafuse/Rehagen actually had a fuel delivery issue and ran out of gas while they were running somewhere around 6th place. It's really to bad because they were really running hard and up front.

Should be an interesting season........

I've enjoyed watching the JBS/Rehagen battles in past seasons, so now that they are joining forces I anticipate they'll be a potent combo. Agreed--should be a great season to look forward to.
