So a couple of my buddys are running Road Atlanta in a Porsche this weekend, the car is using the Bridgestone re71 tires. They plan on using 1 set for the whole 12 or 14 hour race. I know it's a light car, but both of them are used to heavier Corvette/ Mustang platforms and they speak well of those tires. I thought I'd pass that along in case any of you were thinking about buying new rubber. I had another friend recommend them as well, but thought that I'd wait and see before I said anything. Apparently they work well and last a long time, which is what most HPDE guys are looking for.

I'm curious how this turns out. The RE-71R's are my next HPDE tire.

Thanks for the real world experience, and I'm not surprised. I've run RE-71R's on my '05GT for the past two years. A new set is going on in the spring. I think of these tires as NT01's with a 200TW rating. It's just a game the manufacturers play to sell "the" tire to have in street tire series.

There is a reason they are the ultimate hot ticket for Autocrossing ion the Street Tire Classes -- they heat up mucho quickly! There are a few competitors , but they are the King of the Cone Carvers , percentage wise, at this point.

Well, you have a perfect size with the BFG Rival 1.5S and as well as possibly the new sleeper -ADvan A052 Yokomama ( not to be confused with Hoosiermama).

Friends at Tire Rack say the Yoko is fast, fast, fast and the BFG gforce Rival 1.5S had plenty of trophies at the Solo Nationals. Supposedly they don't get greasy quite as soon as the RE71Rs ( on a road course )? Lastly you have the Falken 615K+ in 315s, and though slower than the others, we should see longer track life out of this 200 TW rated donut.

So hit the link up top and get your black oval air holding contrivances order from the Tire Rack..

.....and yes , I do know the Yokes need a special order, but that is because they are quite likely the new sleeper for the 200 Treadwear contingent.

I took a look at the Advantage A052 specs on TireRack and their widths run phenomally wide. Hell, even their 265/40-18 has a 10" tread width, and that's just on a 9.5" wide wheel! And their 295/35-18 has a 11.2" tread width on just a 10.5" wide wheel. I would imagine that putting them on 0.5" wider wheels would increase those widths by at least another 0.2".

Very interesting. I wonder why TireRack didn't measure them on a wider wheel in the first place.

Congrats on the new sticky rubber. Do make sure you post your impressions on the ADvans when you hit the track? I always suggest folks go over the spec sheet when viewing tires on the TireRack site. It can often open one's eyes , a bit, that some Manufacturer's take license to be on the edge of the rules when designating their tire's unique dimensions.

Good example is how some classes run in NASA have to meet a tire dimension spec guideline. The reasoning is not all tires figured at a 285 width ( example ) may actually measure that. Having run BFG and Hoosier , often , over the years, I and others often noticed there was more meat on the ground. Hence the rule was instituted so folks would have a more exact footprint - NASA's thoughts. Currently there is some consternation with this rule, as it appears that in many cases a Toyo fits the matrix , but some others like BFG, Hoosier, and Yokohama , may be wider, and miss the pattern. Not really and issue for Mustangs ,though , since we will likely run in the Super Touring Classes (ST1-ST3 or TT1-TT3 ) racing or time trial classes.

Could be they follow the tire manufacturer recommendations on wheel width.

I didn't buy them...yet. Just doing some research based on your mentioning them. They are definitely on my short list along with the Falkens RT615+.

Simple answer ---- Yokes are faster and will wear quicker, Falkens are slower , but will last longer. Boy, is that a brilliant statement, ha.

If you want fast, fast , the Yokes are apparently the new sleeper, but with speed comes wear. Falkens are supposedly a bit slower than the RS-4, which is slower than the BFG Rival S 1.5 or the RE71r, but will probably last longer than all the others. Now if you are on wide ass 18x11s where you can use a mother of a tire, their ( Falken) 315 width will gain you some time back , likely?

All comments are made with the reservation that much of the info comes from my underground , secret pal at TireRack , so you know the drill --- move finger up North and hit the Link!

Did you do any daily driving on them? I'm curious as to how fast they wear when you include street miles.
