Build The Ultimate GT350

After a few ideas from the thread below I thought I'd be fun to build the ultimate GT350. Let's keep it street legal and steal as many ideas as you want from the Mustang GT4. I'll update the first post with your suggestions. Everything is subject to changes except the BIW portion of the car which must stay steel. The goal is to beat a Porsche GT3 RS around your favorite track.

After my experience at the Porsche Experience two weeks ago it's obvious to me what the GT350 needs is less weight. Like 400 lbs less. While that might not be possible with the current chassis I think it's possible to lose 100-200 lbs. If you post a weight saving idea give us your estimate of what you think the weight savings would be. According to the TMO archives the current GT350R A/C delete comes in at 3,650 so we'll start there.

My first two are:

1. Front CC brake rotors, 30+ lbs
2. CF Driveshaft, 10 lbs
3. Thinner Glass all around, 20 lbs
4. Lighter Clutch/Flywheel assembly, 10 lbs
5. Remove or reduce the amount of sound insulation, 10 lbs
6. CF Trunk lid, 10 lbs
7. Lighter race inspired seats (optional?) 40 lbs
8. Revised CF wheels that would be lighter and wider
9. CF wing like on the GT4
10. 25-30 more HP/20 Lbs ft, yes! 550 HP would be a nice number.
11.Increased Cooling (more efficient/bigger diff and oil coolers)
12. Dry sump oiling system (GT4 inspired?)
13. Chromoly 4 point roll bar
14. Multimatic GT4 adjustable rear control arms
15. Multimatic DSSV Shocks
16. Stainless Brake and Clutch lines
17. Lighter exhaust system components (Ti headers and or mufflers) 20 lbs
18. Ti wheel nuts 3 lbs
19. Carbon Fiber Hood (something that is effective but perhaps cheaper than the GT4 unit) 15 lbs
20. Lighter/revised front and rear bumpers and crash beams with integrated Tow Hooks 10 lbs
21. More aero up front
21. Lightweight battery, 20 lbs
22. Bushings, misc, 10 lbs

As crazy as this may sound, I would not remove AC. It is a street car. I would focus on a lot of small subtleties that would add up collectively:

1. CC brake rotors, 30+ lbs
2. CF Driveshaft, 10 lbs
3. Thinner Glass all around
4. Lighter Clutch/Flywheel assembly
5. Remove or reduce the amount of sound insulation.
6. Remove inner fender liners
6. Basic Radio with Sync similar to 2013 Boss 302 (still thinking street car)
7. Lighter race inspired seats (optional?)
8. Revised CF wheels that would be lighter and wider
9. More aggressive DOT tires to go with the wheels
10. 25-30 more HP/20 Lbs ft
11.Increased Cooling (more efficient/bigger diff and oil coolers)
12. Dry sump oiling system (GT4 inspired?)
13. Chromoly 4 point roll bar
14. Multimatic GT4 adjustable rear control arms
15. Multimatic Shocks
16. Stainless Brake and Clutch lines
17. Lighter exhaust system components (Ti headers and or mufflers)
18. Ti wheel nuts
19. Carbon Fiber Hood (something that is effective but perhaps cheaper than the GT4 unit)
20. Lighter/revised front and rear bumpers and crash beams with integrated Tow Hooks

Fairly simple question to answer :

CF hood with extra venting to reduce lift
CF doors
CF trunk
lighter forged wheels with semi slicks (save on costs compared to CF wheels)
lowering springs (cost saving also compared to a full DSSV or Ohlins setup
Delring bushings where necessary, ball joints / unibal where possible
front splitter and real rear diffuser
Lexan / Macrolon rear window
carbon fiber non-reclinable bucket seats with sliders etc
6 point harnesses
no stereo system
6 point rollcage
lighter brake rotors (but no PCCD stuff to save on costs)
stainless steel brake lines
rear wing

And that's about it. A setup like that would annihilate pretty much anything on track with a proper driver behind the wheel. Next, spend some cash for some good driving tutoring with a pro race driver and that will do the rest.

But that's already an easy 50k of parts in that list... I can't say all of it is on my wish list, but the CF stuff is definitely an item I'll get into next year.

I have done the following to my 2016 track pack GT350.

Front:
Vorshlag camber plates.
Cortex modified bump steer kit.
Cortex monoball control arm bearings.
Cortex adjustable sway bar end links.
Eibach sway bar.
Delrin sway bar bushings.
Billet aluminum sway bar mounts.
ARP studs.
Titanium lug nuts.
Forgeline GA1R open lugs 11x19.
Pilot sport cup 2 305/30.

Rear:
Cortex monoball control arm bearings.
Cortex adjustable sway bar end links.
Eibach sway bar.
Delrin sway bar bushings.
Billet aluminum sway bar mounts.
ARP studs.
Titanium lug nuts.
Forgeline GA1R open lugs 11x19.
Pilot sport cup 2 305/30.
Ford performance IRS cradle aluminum bushings.
Ford performance differential aluminum / delrin bushings.
Ford performance toe bearings.
Self made adjustable toe links.
Self made adjustable vertical links.
Self modified camber links with delrin bushings and bearings.

MGW shifter.
American racing headers, catless x pipe, stock mufflers.
Ford performance dual oil catch cans.
R front splitter.
R rear seat delete.
Watson bar.
Braille i34c battery.
SRP pedals.
Steeda clutch spring.
JMS jacking blocks.
X-Pel.
Lund tune for 100 octane race gas.
Sunoco 260GT 100 octane.
Ford performance front and rear tow hooks.
Spiegler stainless brake hoses.
Stainless caliper studs.
R and ford performance front and rear springs.

I removed 152 pounds from my track pack. I plan on replacing the stock recaros with recaros profi spa to remove another 70+ pounds for the pair.

I may consider the AP brake set up to reduce more unsprung / rotational weight.

I removed 152 pounds total before the roll bar and harness. I want to add the Recaro Profi spa carbon seats to off set the weight.
Sorry for the confusion.

The stock rear rubber control arm bushings are 2.2 pounds each. X 2 = 4.4

The IRS and differential bushings I removed 12 pounds.

The stock front rubber control arm bushings are nearly 3 pounds if I remember right. X 2 = 6.

The cortex aluminum bearings are 1 pound each.

The R rear seat delete and removing all the trunk junk and seat hardware and seat belts from the rear removed 32 pounds.

The GA1R open lugs 11x19 with pilot sport cup 2 305/30 removed 52 pounds.

Titanium lug nuts removed 3.2 pounds total.

American racing headers and catless x pipe removed 23 pounds.
The ARH mufflers and borla mufflers weigh less then the stock mufflers. I have ARH and borla mufflers also. But still running stock mufflers.

The Braille i32c battery removed 20 pounds.
