First time back on track for 2020. Picked up some Re71r's for track tires. 53 degrees was the high temp so the track was a little cold. Signed up in the novice group to run with my buddies who haven't been on track in 6+ months. Had a blast doing some lead follows, they are running a 2007 GT500 Super Snake, 2014 5.0, and 2013 focus st.

Also had a scary thing happen. Was coming on to the front straight and a white S550 came to a COMPLETE STOP in front of me after being black flagged.

Will be up at Autobahn Country Club with Laps track days in July and hoping to sign up for something at Road America while I have the car up there. I see they have a HPDE2 class on the 15th, might sign up for that..... has anyone done the HPDE 2 class at RA?

Well if you are that gung ho to drive to tracks a good distance from Houston, you need to put the Mustang Roundup on your to do list in early October --- it will be a TMO Challenge event, and yes there is Instruction if you wish. www.racemph.com

Sounds like there needs to be a bit better schooling in the Novice Group if the Classroom did not make a Black Flag situation a lot clearer --- agree , that is scary and doubly dangerous~

I was looking at COTA in October, but Hastings is only a 12 hour drive...

I see on the event registration there is a few options.

If I was to sign up, would I be able to register for the Fri/Sat for qualified drivers or would I have to register for the Fri/Sun new driver HPDE? Would be looking to head back home Sunday, assuming nothing happens to the car....

Sounds like you have plenty of track time , so the new driver situation is not necessarily a concern for you. I can vouch for you also , but with all the track time you are doing , the only other advantage would be to sign up early and get in some practice for free on Thursday afternoon. Be happy to give you a few pointers. The fun part is the laps are timed, so easy to see improvements and there is plenty of time on track for everyone. Sunday is kind of a wind down day , where many will leave in the am, though the morning is open track time for those that want to get more seat time over the weekend.

I ran a 2001 true blue bullitt for five years and loved every second of it. I ran enkei rpf1’s 18x9.5 +15 with 275/35-18’s and 2.5 degrees of camber and it worked great.

Oh man, that is NICE! Love the true blue Bullitts! Nice setup, should probably do something similar with mine. Looked at 17x9.5 with 275's but the tire selection is not great, guess 18's are the way to go.

Well after a 3 month shutdown the local track, MSR Houston, is open to non members again!

Ran last weekend with The Drivers Edge. 5 inches of rain predicted for Saturday made for a fun welcome back. Poured the whole way to the track and stopped when I was pulling up, never rained again all weekend. Took my RE71r track tires but never changed them, ended up running my BFG Sport Comp 2s all weekend.

Got some great runs in despite off track conditions being swamp like. Saw 2 cars in my group end their weekend early due to being over aggressive Saturday and sliding off track into ankle+ deep water and getting stuck in the mud.

Video 1- Trying to keep up with a 2004 Mustang Gt with then entire Maximum Motorsports catalog plus wider stickier tires on the last lap, his first weekend in the car. Almost bought this car a few weeks ago when it came up for sale. $7500 was the asking price. Bullitt held its own really well.

Video 2- Was pacing two BMW M3's when we came up on a Miata. Had fun with the Miata then caught up to the slower of the M3's.

Video 3- Trading laps with a VW GTI. He caught me after 1 warm up lap. Let him by, caught him, then was running experimental lines so he caught me again. Let him by again then caught him on the white flag lap (last lap).

Went on a 2500+ mile road trip to Autobahn Country Club and Road America last week. Loaded up the Bullitt with the full kit and headed north Saturday July 11th. Also replaced my brake lines with SS and put new rotors/ pads on.

Had a blast with LAPS track days at ABCC full 3.56 mile course on Monday the 13th. Signed up in the novice with instructor so I wouldn't be in the way of wanna be racers in the Intermediate group. Ended up donating my 2nd session to instructing a lead follow for a slow M3. Left an easy 5-10 seconds on the table, out there just having fun.

Fun video passing Porsche, Corvettes, Viper, and McLaren. GT350 ended up disabled and had smoke pouring out of the hood to end the video, hopefully nothing serious.

Drove up to Road America on the 14th for their HPDP2 class on the 15th. Ended up pouring rain all day and night, had a BLAST! Won a $2 Road America rain poncho as a trophy for fastest time in the Speed Stop Challenge over a AWD Lexus, z06 corvette, Focus rs, Challenger, Mercedes, and 2013 mustang. Always great showing people that a slow car isn't as slow as they think!

Had big dreams of blasting in to Canada Corner at 135+ (previous best 130 at TWS) but the rain dashed that hope. Had to settle for 105 mph and that was pushing it as far as I cared to given the conditions.

Here is the Speed Stop Challenge and Road America's go cart course in my car:

Well , heck , Bullitt, we need to make sure you load up in October and come to the Ford and Mustang Roundup, as it will feel like a short drive after this fun , two track trip, ha. Cool pics and thanks for posting as both tracks are fun and always good to show folks that the Pony can still gallop by many other breeds!! By the way , thanks for the vids , as I have missed both my trips to each of those tracks this year!!

Bullitt I saw your car at Autobahn. I walked over to see who owned the car but no one was there at the time. I ran the White 350R, no smoke, LOL. Awfully crowded group. I only had one lap where I could get a decent time.

Well darn sorry that I missed you! Glad to hear the GT350 ran well.

Yea when I was studying video I saw this one and that's what helped my decision to sign up in the novice group, way too many people in intermediate. Novice was great, just had to pass a few slow drivers to get in the open.

Finally made it out to Circuit of the Americas with the Bullitt. Went out with Edge Addicts for their intro to performance driving class. This was the cheapest I could find for COTA track time, $295 for 2- 30 minute sessions with instructor.

Great opportunity to run COTA at speed and see what it would take to run a weekend there. Used 2mm of brake pad in an hour being easy on the brakes. Will need an extra set of pads if I want to run here for a weekend and be aggressive on the brakes.

COTA brought out exactly the kind of cars you would expect. 100k+ cars were everywhere. Always fun to see these beast being used the way they were intended!

Didn't get any clear laps, but 2:59 was the fastest with traffic. Consistently blew my entry to the carousel so will fix that next time. Mid-high 2:40's should be attainable with a few tweaks to my line and chipping away at the braking zones.

Here is a fun video from session 2. Passing corvette, porsche, tesla, honda, focus rs, charger, and having fun trying to reel in a new Camaro that can put 15-20 car lengths on me in the straights.

Impressive cars out there.

How many laps did it take you to feel comfortable pushing it?

Watched about 20 hours of video so had the layout, corner speeds, and some reference points down.
Started testing the 90 degree 40mph corners on the second or third lap.
Started pushing braking zones the second session.
Threw in 100% acceptable risk and pace trying to chase down the Camaro the last 3 minutes of the video.
Knew I was faster in the corners from previous session/earlier in the 2nd session. Can see the hood really sink when I get on the binders in the big braking zones and started to keep in the throttle all the way to the brake markers. Also the body roll through the esses and rhythm section is more pronounced.

Was entering the esses around 100mph and exiting the carousel around 85. That is on pace with the GT3RS Porsche video I was studying. Not bad for my first time.

It's always good to be prepared. And it helps when you have lots of confidence in your car too.

Hope you'll consider creating a vehicle profile for your car here so it shows up in your signature:

Last track day of the year this past Sunday. Turned out to be pouring rain and 2 foot deep water/ mud off track. Still went and had fun despite the conditions.

Was also my first time in 30+ HPDE days of running a lap time, finally bought a phone capable of running track addict. Now I have something to improve on I guess.image0.png

Already looking forward to hitting Eagles Canyon, Mid Ohio, and Pitt Race next year.

Also planning on driving the car to Boise ID for Bullitt nationals and hitting Bryce Canyon, Monument Valley, Arches, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton National Parks depending on the Corona/shutdown situation.

Anyways here is a video from Sunday of me sliding around and spinning my car. Also see a Camaro spin then require a tow later in the day after sticking it in 2+ feet of mud.
