It is finally summer, and some people like to come to Colorado this time of year. We are fortunate here to have at least four great car museums. Probably more than four, but here are the most well known:

1) Shelby American Collection in Boulder - Absolutely not to be missed. Ever seen a real Shelby Cobra? How about a couple dozen in the same place? In a addition to some extremely rare Cobras, there are several other cars of interest to Ford fans, including GT40's, a couple of Mustangs, etc. Also, a ton of memorabilia. Only $5, but only open on Saturdays from 10-4.

2) Clive Cussler's Car Museum in Arvada - Clive Cussler is a famous and popular author who features classic cars in his novels. He actually OWNS the cars that appear in his books. This place is incredible. The displays rotate occasionally; the newest car is generally from the early 60's and they go back to 1906. You won't believe what is in this place. $10, open M-Th only in the summer.

3) Forney Museum of Transportation in Denver - Wonderful place that covers the history of transportation, so there is everything from wagons to bicycles to cars. The prime attraction is an enormous steam locomotive called "Big Boy". $9.75, open every day.

4) Gateway Canyons Auto Museum in Gateway, CO (Far west edge of Colorado, about 40 miles from Grand Junction) - When I grow up and become rich, I am going to collect cars. Then I am going to buy a town in which to build my castle. Then I am going to put a super-luxury resort where the town used to be so that the few people left have a place to work. Then I am going to put my cars into a non-profit museum so that I can write off the expenses of maintaining them. Just like the guy who created the Discovery Channel Empire!

Not a museum, but for people here in CO over fathers day weekend, there is the annual Mustang meetup in Steam Boat Springs.
