This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

We got this local owner in to do a full on brake job.

(Ignore the silly red car....)

First we will get the front pads out. Use a suitable punch to knock the pad pins out. Then remove the pins and cross spring.

You should then be able to wiggle the pads out - pull them back a bit if there is a big lip to get over.

The arrow on the shim is for direction of rotation.

Remove the bolts holding on the caliper. Pretty tight 15mm head.

Blue loctite!

Hang the caliper out of the way and install the new rotor. DBA 2 piece - pretty!

Reinstall the calipers - 85 ft-lbs and blue loctite

Here is the tool we use to push the pistons back
544904_353660281401000_153936011_n.jpg

Or in a pinch you can pry back w/ a used pad.

561831_353660304734331_777238883_n.jpg

Note - Leave the other pad in so those pistons don't push out.

Re-install pads and pins/cross spring. Make sure the pin detent seats securely.

It's easiest to do the lines separately when it's all back together. Just re-do what Ford did w/ the new lines.

Remove/install the lines. The Stoptech kit was quite complete to mimic the secure factory setup. You remove the factory bracket - you do have to finesse the line to attach to it - but then they have a neat isolator setup to hold the lines.

Get a line wrench - and don't overtorque.

The process is pretty similar for the rear.

2 bolts hold the caliper/bracket assembly on.

In this case though - you have to rotate the piston back into the caliper.

This tool comes in handy.

I think you can get it on loan at AZ.

Rotate piston back.

Make sure the detents in the piston are at 12/6 oclock so you can get the inner pad back in correctly.

The little rotor hold down things are fun. Don't bust a knuckle on these.

Grease the caliper slide pins

Thankyou KNS brakes for the products, the service, and the education I received at your shop. These rotors are coupled with HP+ pads for the street and DTC 70/60 pads for the track. Ken, Roman, and Nick are professional and a class act. Those Hawk pads bite hard and really add additional excitement to everyday driving. Brakes are your most important mod, and I'll be calling Ken again when the rotors are chewed.

BTW, that "silly red car" is a shweet C5 Z06, gutted and caged for the track. Nice ride.

I just put DTC60's on my front and OMG.....

This upcoming weekend would be a good opportunity to add some track pads to those street pads. I've got the changing tools if anyone needs.

KNS brakes are great. I called them to discuss brake options for the Boss. Very helpful and gave me a great price on some Carbotechs. Went with 12s up front and 10s rear with some motul 600. Drive some on the street and some track time. They work great, really grab. A little squeaky on the street but that's the price we pay. As soon as I burn through the stock rotors I will be getting those DBAs and the brake lines from them. Might move to 16s up front next time. First time using Carbotech had always ran PF1s in the past and was sick of the dust. Was told the Carbotech has less dust and it appears so. Good guys to deal with.

We use Carbotechs at our Dealership and I personally am running the 24s on my Boss. Love the new pads and yes they are noisy, but when you outbrake a Porsche GT3 after going down a 135 mph straight , it is pure squeal of delight!!!!

So 24s up front and what out back? Do you drive a little bit on the street? or do you run different pads track and street. I would say that the Carbotech 12s and 10s are a huge improvement over the stock Boss pads. But at the track after 5 laps or so they do let up a little , still stop just have to press the brake pedal more. I plan to move up on the pads once these are gone. 24s must be awesome!

In for the results of the 24s! I run 20s in the front with 10s in the back. No problems street driving a little with these pads. Just a little noisy/dusty.

I would suggest street driving to the track - or when you leave the driveway to enjoy some roads.

Mostly a 'track only' pad though.

-Ken

Thanks Ken , yes that's about what I do with the Boss. No commuting or anything like that, have a F-150 for that. Drive to the track, drive to the gym when nice out, country road blasts on the weekends if it is nice out. I'm just to lazy to change out the pads for street and track. So the track pads stay in all summer. Once winter is here the stock pads go back on. I will call in when I run out of pads and go over my set up with you and we will move up on the pads. Really like the Carbotechs and your service.
