December C&D: 2016 Camaro SS vs Mustang GT

Not surprisingly the Camaro spanked the Mustang in the performance numbers. But you have to pay attention and read carefully because the SS was a 8 speed auto vs the 6 speed manual in the Mustang. The new age autos are just killing manuals in straight line acceleration. The other numbers weren't good either. So while the Camaro lost 100 pounds the Mustang gained over 100 pounds so now the weight advantage falls to Camaro.

My only real disappointment with the S550 platform is the weight. The rumors started as 100 lbs decrease, and ended up being exactly the opposite.

Hopefully this changes throughout the life of the platform. While there are some aluminum parts already, perhaps they will start to use more if it's successful on the truck line.

I would like to see those time slips for the quarter mile, not surprised the Camaro ran a 12.3 ET, but shocked the Mustang could only muster a 13.0 ET.

These cars are fine tuned before release to the press. Love to see to 60' times for both cars and wouldn't be surprised to see a 1.65 - 1.75 v. a 2.0+ for the Mustang, which I might add is Driver induced, if you know what I mean.

But if they are similar, a 13.0 ET is a poor showing for the S550.

IIRC, the 2012 Boss pounded out 12.2 and 12.3 second ET when tested by C&D & R&T, (or vice versa).

I do have to admit, 455 lbs ft TQ is impressive!

Well, as this (or another) article said, Camaro is getting the benefit of the GM parts bin to be able to offer that engine, suspension, and chassis at a price that is "affordable"; Ford just doesn't have other divisions to play off of and send the good stuff back to the Mustang.
