Modified a GT500 IC tank (machined new nipples from a billet of 6061-T6 aluminum and relocated them to the other side for the GT) and boom the water tank/pump are moved back up front leaving room for a fuel cell in the back. This also necessitates building a new Power Steering tank. (in progress)
It took all of my will power to not take this thing to the buffer and make it chrome ;)

Sal, I also used a Moroso IC tank (128 oz) but is located in the normal battery location against the right firewall corner. I see what looks like the standard Bosch 12V IC pump/ Is that the IC pump you used when your IC tank was in the trunk? I initially had the standard Bosch IC pump but switched to a Jabsco Marine pump for higher flow at around 20 gpm.

Not chromed? Well as us old Harley guys say..." chrome don't get you home".

No, my trunk mounted tank has an integral jabsco marine pump.
This is the upgraded Kenne Bell supplied pump. I Have a good relationship with Mike over there and he assured me this was plenty of pump, so I went with it. This tank is larger than the battery location tank (5 quarts/160 oz) plus my mini battery is located in that spot so I had to do something more traditional.
I spent too much time on the show circuit to not polish everything aluminum....especially cause I can. Rest assured, at some point it will get polished, but today is not that day. :D

When I was racing stock cars we used to say: "If it don't go, Chrome it". LOL.

Pulled the stock tank today and cut some clearance for the cell.
I'll build a can and proper mount later, right now it's hot and I'm tired.

WHere did you get the fuel cell from? I'm looking for one for my Barracuda project.
Nice welding on that baffled tank, i'm jealous :)

Thanks.
I had it custom built by ATL. I called ATL and worked out a set of options and they gave it a part number and I called SUMMIT and purchased it through them. It's not the cheapest, but only one of two brands that are NASA and SCCA legal just in case I go that route later.

Most laymen have no idea how much effort that is to do, Phoenix charges, minimum $1500 for one of their custom fuel tanks w/o pumps, complete it's around $3K with the 3 pumps, baffles, sumps and everything else.

I really need to be on the lookout for an S197 salvage title car...

Not to mention all the mounting and sheet metal work to get it properly installed.
On short track cars I just hung the cell under the frame exposed (but in a can with a tubing bump guard) since aero wasn't nearly as important as it is in this discipline.
Back then big aero mean you had a spoiler. lol.
