The crank journal did look a little dark in the pics.

Good luck with the resurrection
Yeah, its black with burnt oil on the journal.

Having raced Spec Miata for quite awhile I think all cars are momentum cars, and the weight reduction is always a pleasant surprise -- easier on brakes as Fabman mentioned, then add longer tire life and he may find himself not driving a slow car at all? Less weight up front also, so better balance , so it will be fun to hear his analysis after the transformation is complete?

Who needs a killer set of 3 valve heads with big ass cams?

Livernois Stage 3 CNC Ported 3 Valve heads w/pac springs, custom ground cams, one piece lock out sprockets (not limiters/lock outs on stock sprockets) and head studs.
These were built on new cores and I made just a tick under 700/700 with them.

Well, I finally have some feedback on that Ultra chiller system I bought a little while back.

This last weekend I had an opportunity to run one of Dig Motorsports spec Mustangs in an SFR SCCA regional race at Sonoma in mid 80* weather and it worked WONDERFULLY.
It was super easy to pull outta my car and install in the loaner car; 2 hose clamps, a 12v power lead and a ground. Done.
It doesn't take much ice/water so its quick and easy to fill and is much-much lighter than your typical ice box systems.

I look forward to trying it in more brutal weather conditions but this initial test passed with flying colors.

Any idea of the cause of the oil starvation?

Ron
Hard to say at this point, everything was destroyed including the oil pump.
So did the pump go and trash the motor or did the motor go and trash the pump?
Basically, in the first 2 seconds of steam and flames in the rearview I knew it was all over and my season had ended before it had begun. The rest is water under the bridge.
I pulled it apart to see what was salvageable and threw the rest in the dumpster so I wouldn't have to look at it......onward to other things.

Nah, that'll probably buff right out.:D
Seriously though, never seen a rod and piston that destroyed before!
Looks like it had a drug habit....

I have the same Manley rods (labeled Livernois). I hope they never look like that pic, but I'm sure someday I'll be pushing the envelope like you... and BOOM. I'll post the pictures as well. :(
I got a super trick set of heads/cams to help you on your way....
