Well done movie, yes the track was not Daytona, not Lemans, and yes it had SAFER barriers, the J car was not authentic, and I'm not sure Shelby stole Ferrari's watches or locked Beebe in his office (although I'm sure he wanted to), and the shifting/staring thing was a bit over done, and some of the racing sequences were filmed at about 40mph.... BUT...so much for the nit picking, the movie was pretty much historically accurate and well done. at least it wasn't Mickey Mousedup with endless computer animation, and the acting was well done. Probably in the top 4 racing movies of all time, all of which every car guy should be familiar with.

Interesting info from BS1, and now a bunch of us will have to look into finding a way to find and watch " The Big Wheel." Have to jump in with the rest and admit I have not only not heard of the movie, I obviously have not seen it. Sure, I bought my son a " Big Wheel," when he was little and I have videos of him riding it, but I imagine if BS1 recommends the film , it has a bit more action than a 4 year old would have demonstrated?

Click on the link and scroll through, the Big Wheel was done in 1949 and is about a jalopy driver that works his way up through midgets and sprints into champ (indy) cars. Lots of driving video, and a lot of racers were in the movie, I think Louie
Meyer, Frank(?) Offenhausr maybe Ted Horn..a lot of name guys for the day..great from just a historical point of view.

Also, Ford GT40 brake problems were no joke, this is McLeans fatal crash at Sebring in one of the first cars that Ford sold to a privateer team. He had just filled with fuel, came out, lost his brakes (they think) tried to spin it out in front of the hairpin and hit a light pole. This was all over the news at the time. The legend is that this car is now buried in an orange grove in Sebring not far from the track, after the investigation, no one wanted the remains of the car, to prevent souvenir hunters from getting to it, the car was buried at night..this is according to a friend of mine, a Sherriff, who grew up at the track and raced on it a few times. just one of the Sebring legends.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie and thought it told the story pretty well. I think Matt Damon is a little too “nice” to play CS (not that CS was an Asshole, but he certainly wasn’t a nice guy) and Christian Bale was magnificent. The cars were spectacular, and if I have to pick:

Making the Deuce cry on a test ride has to be my favorite scene of the whole movie.

Saw the movie last night, had low expectations but was really impressed with it. They did a great job with the story and presentation of it. Hard to find fault with it, noticed a couple of minor editing issues, thought Bale was a tiny bit over the top at times with the driving scenes but overall one of the best racing movies ever. Any car person should be seeing this movie without a doubt. I will definitely be watching this again, one of the few movies I would say that about.
