Ok, a bit older than most folks on here race, but this is still pretty cool. My Ford parts connection guy restored this car his brother bought in back in 1978.

Raced back in the 70s in Texas.

39 years after the family bought it, the car hit the track this weekend for it's first shake down test and drivers school event.

His pit crew and friends are four brothers, all firemen, that crewed for Buddy Lazier at last year's Indy 500 (a cool story in itself, you can Google it). They all race various cars as well.

Congrats to my friend on his first outing in the "Metal Maiden".

Wow! Tell us more, this is the coolest. Where'd they track it?
The car is being raced with CVAR, Corinthian Vintage Auto Racing for the first time at MSR Houston this weekend. They had a student group for new racers so he was getting his license. I raced my 65 Fastback with CVAR for 16 years.

He's part of a group of folks here in Texas that have probably owned more cool cars back in the day than most people could imagine. There are a lot of Carroll Shelby connections here. A large part of the early vintage racers here started out in the local Shelby club because they actually ran their cars as intended.

Some old pics at Texas World Speedway and the ghost of Boss 302 under the old fender's paint.

And a '69 is awesome since I've got the C-striped '12.
Best of luck to him!

OK. Way out of my league cool here. I'm wondering if that car hauler is the same ride the guys at Grassroots Motorsport resurrected to haul their rides? A friend of mine has an old International car hauler sitting in the woods at his place, and I'd love to see it come back to life.

The car hauler was for Raymond Beadle's Blue Max drag car from what I remember reading. They were both Dallas based racers. He had a speed shop off of Forest Lane, then the local cruise spot.

What a cool thread and not sure what took me so long to find this amazing story? All of us are looking forward to some action shots running various tracks in 2019.
Distinct pleasure for many of us to see this old beast running around a road course, as quite a few of us with Stangs, Bosses and GTs are members of AARP ( American Association of Racing People ) and it helps us relive our childhood dreams and aspirations. Keep the info coming and again thanks for posting!

Am a bit curious as to why in one of the early photos, the car has a Mach 1 personalized Texas license plate.
My friends response: "It was on the back of the red 69 Mustang parts car he made us take before we could pick up the Boss. A red 69 428 CJ Mach 1. No motor or trans so it was a shell too. It would cost more than the car was worth to fix so it was robbed of anything left and sold for scrap metal."

Of course this was long before these cars were worth what they are now.

Wow, Thanks for showing interest in the old girl. If you are in the Dallas Ft Worth area there will be a CVAR Vintage Race Nov 30 and Dec 1st and 2nd at Texas Motor Speedway. We will be running the roval and it's a benefit for Race Against Kids’ Cancer project. There will be all kinds of vintage iron out there for spectators to see and watch at speed. The Metal Maiden will be out on track too ! ! !
