Hi Guys

I own a 302 LS #210. Went already on the Track in Hockenheim Germany. Will go to Monza in Italy soon.

Was Happy with the Car especially with the Track Key. The only thing i was not happy about was with my Gear Shift. It gets sometimes really hard and it is not so exact.

Anyone got experiences in modifiying it?

This is a very common problem for many of us…here is a link to in my opinion the best aftermarket shifter for our cars currently on the market. I know some others will chime in and give you their opinion.

before you buy a new shifter install a Whiteline shifter bushing. Yes the stock shifter is garbage, but many have reported that just replacing the shifter will not fix the problems of lockout. For the cost of the bushing it would be the best thing to do first. its a simple job to install.

Yes unfortunately we all have lots of experience with these issues. While there are lots of band aid fixes there are only one true fix for the two main issues.

Shifting lock out: upgrade the clutch and the McLeod RST is a popular choice.

Clutch pedal sticking: remove the clutch spring.

Everything else mentioned will not solve your problems.

To improve the shifting action you can either replace the shifter with the MGW or Barton/Ford Racing or for the more budget minded try the Barton twin post shifter bracket which replaces the stock marshmallow.

I can attest to what NFSBOSS said. I used to have 2nd-3rd gear lockout at the drags when shifting at high RPMs. After installing the mcleod RXT, no more lockout... Also took out the helper assist spring, now the pedal doesn't stick to the floor either...
