Surprisingly Mustang II production (1973-78) totaled just about 1.1M units.

In its first year, the 1974 Mustang II production reached 418,812 units. That’s a lot of Mustang II’s. (Ford launched the 1974 Mustang II just prior to the OPEC oil embargo.)

In 1974 the Mustang II received Motor Trends Car of the Year Award.

Who knew?

My first mustang was a ‘76 mustang II 4 cylinder I had handed down to me from my dad. A year later my first car purchase was a ‘78 mustang II Ghia which had the V8. That was in ‘83. I blew that motor and rebuilt it from the crappy ‘78 V8 to one with ‘68 heads, forged flat top slugs, roller rockers, high lift cam, and a Holley 650 double pumper. That light weight car would move. It was fun messing with Novas:)

Hey I can dig it. Once rode down the track at Englishtown back in the late 70s in a Pinto with nine others folks jammed in there. It was one entry fee per carload, so we all parked outside and crammed into the Pinto to get in. Apparently we had the most in the compact car class and they made us get back in and parade down the quarter mile in front of the crowd. It was brutial but I did have "Big Top" Barbara in my lap in the passenger seat. :D
