I've seen the carbon fiber composite piece referred to as a grille. Isn't that the radiator support? Wouldn't that make more sense as far as weight savings go?

This is a quote from the media.ford page...nothing said about rad support, just grille opening.

"Front stiffness is further improved on GT350 with a cutting-edge injection-molded carbon fiber composite grille opening and optional lightweight tower-to-tower brace"

I'm going to attempt to show photos that highlight the difference between a GT and GT350. Click on the images to enlarge them.

The front wheels and brakes are different ;) The wheels on the GT are very nice looking.

More photos from our visit to the L.A. Auto Show on opening day.

Now for a few things I like and didn't like. Hopefully Grant will chime in with his impressions.

I really like the wheels. They are a satin finish similar to the black used on the Enkei PF01's many of us use. Those are 295's on the front and 305's on the rear. Remember I think the R will have 305's up front and 325's out back.

Lots of black plastic and the embossed Shelby is a nice touch.

Note the little notch on both sides on the bottom. Not sure what it's for. Also note the honeycomb texture on much of the exterior plastic. It adds a quality touch to the plastic but it could be an issue keeping it clean.

But there's one problem with it. The exhaust tips are plastic and not removable. The pipe sticks into the plastic like my wife's Fusion. Ford if you're reading this please use SS tips and ditch the plastic. Mufflers are one of the first things Mustang owners change on their cars and this will cause problems. Or at least make it a separate piece so it can be removed easily.

Reasoning for the exhaust tip "Finishers" as explained to me by a higher up for the brand I work for… Use of current exhaust materials allows for quite a bit of movement at different temperature ranges. The separated/ faux tips are used to ease production tolerance & quell complaints of misaligned exhaust during warranty period. Of course that does nothing for all of us who can not leave anything stock. Great pictures! 1st time seeing close ups. Front fender side slits and rear make me think C7 and GTR. Both Very nice cars. Can not wait to see one in person.

Not a fan of the separate exhaust tips. Look great, but I'd worry about how they stand up to track use and slight mis-alignment. And how much are people going to want to pay for aftermarket mufflers that don't even have visible tips. Maybe Ford wants to 'protect' the signature sound of the FPC.

One thing I'm impressed with is the underbody aero and the overall flatness of everything not covered by a plastic panel, but I obsess over crap like that. It just might not be fun when it comes time to change the oil, or find the socket that you dropped in the engine bay.

I like the 'micro hexagon' texture in most of the plastic body trim...muuuch better than the typical 'pebble' finish.

I think the notches in the splitter are because it's 3 pieces instead of 1 and that the notches are expansion joints. My '00 GT has a similar looking joint in the rocker panels. Might also mean that there will be a non-Shelby version of the splitter and they'd only need to change the center mold.

Rick did a great job figuring out how and where the widening in the front was done. And now it really makes sense about the widened rear track on the '15. They wouldn't widen at the fenders for only one model of Mustang. I'm sure it was all programed that way early on.

And if you can't tell from the pics or the official videos, those Super Sports are really stretched on! Traction should be impressive. And I wonder how much special construction Ford got from Michelin. The PSS already use a bi-compound tread for both grip and higher TW rating or stiffer sidewall construction.

I'm probably forgetting something...

Only on BMO! 8)

really nice pics.
I really like that they've taken such an interest in making this a 'driver's car' by doing the subtle, but really important, things like paying attention to forward visibility. It's a bugaboo of mine for sure and so glad they've addressed it. It's looking like a really nice package.

??? Did you just call me a dog sled? j/k! ;)

Yeah, we can't go without BMO parkas! My blood is too thin for sub zero weather.

Grant and I were unable to take photos of the GT350 interior no matter how much I sweet talked that model! Found some nice ones over on Top Speed. Check out the 200 MPH speedo and 8,200 RPM redline tach. Nice. ;D Click on the photos to enlarge them.

I would prefer if they swapped the tach and speedo locations

Otherwise, looking pretty good

Rumored $52,995 base MSRP

Grant 302 said:
My current estimate for the base price is $51k to $53k.

Grant 302 said:
I keep 'playing' with the numbers...

'11 Premium GT base delivered was $33,695.
'12 Boss base delivered was $41,105
'15 Premium GT base is $36,100 (I assume delivered)
'15 Base GT is $32,100 (again assume delivered)
Current GT Perf. Pack is $2,495
Current Recaro is $1,595 (same delta for Base and Premium) Used to be $1,695 IIRC.

The Base Boss was about $10k over a Base GT and about $8,000 over the Base PremiumGT. This assumes all engine, suspension, part and development costs.

Starting with the '15 GT Premium:
.................................$36,100
Boss to GTP Delta........$ 8,000
MagneRide..................$ 2,500 delta over the Boss Tokicos
New Recaros say ........$ 2,000 since they're upgraded a bit more
Brake delta..................$ 3,000
Front End & Body........$ 2,500 Delta for panels, etc. add for CF.
Tire delta....................$ 500 Delta over Boss P Zeros
--------------------------------------
MSRP Total $52,800

If I start with the Base GT and the 10k delta, the price is 2k less...

Hrm. I hope that rumour has more legitimacy than my estimates.

GT350 Photos and Specs: SVTP Interview with Jamal Hameedi

Below is a video from SVTP. I few interesting comments from Jamal:

* The headlights are lower.
* They didn't even consider a Tremec 6060 because "they are way too heavy".
* The 3160 isn't as "stout" as a 6060.
* Some of the previous shifting gremlins were from "driveline wind up that would backlash into a hard shift", the IRS eliminates much of that.
* The 3160 shifts "significantly faster" than a 6060.
* The two piece steel driveshaft is for stiffness and they couldn't get a CF driveshaft stiff enough. What about aluminum?
* Pistons are as light as a Ferrari 458 piston!
* The car has a button that completely bypasses the exhaust valve for full open. That should make many happy. 8)

A couple of more hard ball questions I would have asked:
1. Carbon Rev has announced that they have inked a deal with a MAJOR manufacturer to supply CF wheels on a production car. Are they going on the GT350?
2. It would seem obvious that a Laguna Seca type version of the GT350 is in order. Any plans for a GT350R?
3. Were CCB's considered?
4. What consideration was given to rear brake ducting?
