Quick comparison to the Lap Time thread - 1.56.3 on VIR Full course is flying.

So. Let me be the advocate of the devil. (Are you guys saying it in english??)

So VIR is a "engine track" IMO. So of course almost 300hp more made a difference.

I think if we have to compare the gt500 we should pick the ZR1.
Zr1 has 755hp (very similar to a gt500). Cost similar to the trackpack gt500
Is track oriented car like the gt500

Zr1 goes around VIR at 1.51.

Zl1 1le 10speed tested in the grand VIR so no comparison as far as I know. (Although you can find a zl1 1le 10speed for 65k so maybe different price range)

So i still have some doubts about the gt500. Don't get me wrong. It is an Awesome car with huge improvement compare to any other mustang. (Paddle shifting for the win! :) )

But..for that price.. Are we sure is a bang for the buck?

Well for the big HP gap it should be ahead on the track. It’s not a apples to apples comparison. The C8 Z51 isn’t the track focused version. That’s still coming.
And that's not the track focused version of the Mustang GT500 either.

It's this car, note the helmet and cameras:

This is the track pack, note no helmet or cameras:

In the V6L
The article's data dropdown panel shows 1:56.30 for the CFTP, so it's good for another 3.38 seconds over the non-CFTP GT500. That said, it's up against a C8 Z51, so saying a mildly modified C8 can run with the fastest affordable machine Ford makes is pretty good. The whole thing will change when a Z0x comes along.

2019 ZR1 starts at $120800, what will 2020 or 21 version cost??? My CFTP 500 is $96695, pretty big difference

We know that mark up is an issue with the500.
But also zr1 is 3 sec faster tha a gt500 ina 2min course.
and if i remember well..test was done by one engineer...no randy.
So yes maybe is "cheaper" than the zr1..
But is also slower. Apperently. But I'm still on "let's wait and see mode"

So a GT350R is approximately the same lap time as a GT500 with the non CF track pack?

Almost, with a great driver like Billy J yes, a very good driver like @BlackBoss is if you check a 2:02 flat in his stock Red 350R. The base 500 with Sport Cups is probably halfway between the R and the CFTP. The caveat being the 500 is easier to drive fast than the R. Power makes up for the extra weight.

The king of the hill for production cars remains the C7 ZR1 which is a full 5 seconds faster around the VIR full course than the GT500. Don't understand all the hype about the new "base" C8 which is 10 seconds slower than the C7 ZR1 and 4 seconds slower than the GT500.

Prediction: The C8 platform's track-focused version (Z06) will lap VIR Grand in a similar time as a Ford GT (2:38.62 w/ Billy Johnson behind the wheel). All we will hear about is how the $350K cheaper car blah, blah, blah... As mentioned earlier, VIR is a horsepower track. The C7 ZR1 already posted a better time (2:37.25) than the Ford GT. The rear engine layout of the C8 will put down all the power the engineers throw at it, and the C8 ZR1 will lay down a new production-car record in the 2:34 range with Jim Mero driving. I'm not basing any of my predictions on Lightning Lap, as entertaining as it is.

The point. There is no point in comparing a Vette to a Mustang. I still WANT my Mustang. Period.
