HyperFest 2014 at Summit Point

This weekend was Hyperfest at Summit Point.

I did a couple of Hyperdrive sessions, which are aimed for people beginners to get a feel of what HPDEs are. Basically it's the gateway drug to tracking :p. I usually do a couple of sessions just to get to drive on the Jefferson circuit, which is the smaller of the three tracks at Summit Point.

As expected, I didn't get to go fast, since the sessions are mixed with drivers of different experience levels.
Overall it was a fun day! Oh and Vaughn Gittin Jr was there drifting on the main circuit... His mustang sounds intoxicating!

Here's a vid of one of my sessions.
I got to test out the MGW shifter that I installed two days ago. My confidence in shifting is back!

There was a very tragic accident on the jefferson circuit, during the last hyperdrive session.
We lost an instructor to the accident, and the driver was injured :(

We all know the risks we take when we're out there on track. But because events are often safe, we sometimes forget the actual life threatening risks.
My condolences and prayers go to the instructor's family and friends, and wish a speedy recovery to the driver.

I just saw your vid and your post. Terrible news about the instructor and the driver. When I was at Watkins I was thinking that same thing, we have their life in our hands,as well as ours. Thoughts and prayers, be safe.

I meant to ask if you knew about the accident or where there when it happened. Absolutely terrible news. There is risk involved in what we do but you never go to a track event thinking you won't be coming back home. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected.

Apparently, there were two major accidents, which both occurred after we left the event.

First was during a race on the main circuit, where a miata went into the woods and the driver had to be sent to the hospital via helicopter. And the second and tragic accident happened at the Jefferson circuit, same track I drove that day. From what I heard, it was an 06 GTO that lost control during a left hander and hit trees off track. Since then I haven't heard any updates on both drivers :(

True that's not a good way to end your day, however he will heal eventually.
