So , I am going over the Boss today and decided to pull the rear inner rat fur liners out to inspect behind them. Holy crap !! What's the point of these? They are full of sand, gravel and general road crap. They obviously don't protect much and will probably cause rust looking forward. Is there any reason other than possible sound dampening for these? I might just put them on the shelf . They are held on with plastic nuts and come off really easy. Has anyone else pulled there's ?

Yes there is. They stop stones from chipping the paint and causing rust.
Hah , fair enough :) . I wish they worked better. There was a small handful of gravel trapped at the bottom behind of each of them that worries me more than some chips that I can paint over. I'm going to leave them off , clean and paint the inner fenders. that way I can see what's happening and crap won't get stuck in there. I'm not daily driving it and I don't drive it on gravel. Thank's

Quit yer bitching Carv, it is only caused cuz you are going fast , ha!!! Just go slower and you won't have the problem, or you can keep the inner fenders while rocking and rolling, knowing you will never become a rock star , with a brush of success chipping at the edges of your wheelhouse.

That almost sounds cool or prophetic or just a bunch of puns uselessly thrown together to confuse the issue.

From the Cornfields of Nebraska the simple answer is , " Keep them in cuz they helps sumpin! "

I took mine out a couple of years ago to bolt in a roll bar and there was a bunch of rubber, sand, and gravel behind them. I drove a short distance without them and you can hear the debris bouncing around in the wheel well, so I put them back in. I have thought about using some urethane truck bed liner to protect the wheel wells, but something else always needs done.

Yes , good point. I wondered about the sound dampening aspect. I'll try it and if it's annoying just pop them back in.
