Insurance claim for rock chips ?

Hey guys !

I got stuck behind a landscapers dumptruck that must have been carrying small river rock or similar. When the dude hit a bump I got a nice spray and couldn't change lanes. I have 10 or so chips down to the metal on the hood.
I think it would be worth filing a claim.

What do you think ? my deduct. is 250.00 and i'm pretty sure its gonna be a whole lot more as the vinyl got hit in 2 places down to the metal as well :'( Not the end of the world but i'm PISSED. This is my garage queen and I have 99.9% prefect paint after a year and a half of ownership.

I would definitely go for it...you didnt by chance get the name or tag # of the landscape truck did you? I would go after them first. It is against the law in most states to have an unsecured load.

A few cars got sprayed and we all slowed down and i pulled over. Didn't get a tag on that total POS truck grrrr.

Anyway - I went to 2 very respectable autobody shops here in NJ and BOTH of them would not touch the car because of the decal ?!?

I took it over to Freehold Ford where I purchased it and they have a vinyl specialist there that also comes with a guarantee on matching and the decal

the decal is 480.00 lol So i'm waiting for geico's rep to come over and nickle me to death BUT I do have on my insurance that its a limited edition car so... w/e that is worth - i'll let ya guys know how it turns out

Thanks !

and a far as Fords guarantee...

Update : I got an estimate from Ford and Geico just left after looking at my car for OVER an hour.
I don't wanna post up numbers on the internet but what Ford quoted me and what geico is giving me a check for are 2 different worlds - in my favor... hmm maybe i should go get the tiger hood ? :)

The issue is that it is not possible to prove it was that truck that damaged your paint.

This is true, but depending on the company, if you can provide the trucks location and description at the time of the incident, many will reimburse you for the damage.

If something like this ever happens to anyone ever, make sure to get all the pertinent info off the truck and immediately notify the police. If its a larger truck hauling stone, it should have a bill of lading, a time stamp and weight stamp from whatever quarry the truck came from. The police can use this to prove the truck was loaded at the time of the incident.

BLAZN BOSS

somewhere on here i posted a thread asking if anyone knew of a aftermarket stripe thats as good as the ford one......no luck there but some one sent me a link to a ford dealer selling the stripe for under 300.00!

cool - Geico allotted me respray of: hood + decal, both front fenders + 302 decal, front bumper left & right, grill surround.
The adjuster also noted that Ford paint sucks and had this special light he used to show me crap under the clear that basically looked like millions of tiny dots and to make sure that when i go get it painted by Ford, to show them and make sure they recognize this as a factory defect 1st. This way any warranty will be secured and backed up by the dealer/Ford.

Any comments/suggestions appreciated
Thanks,
Rob

Low level, know it all employees, are a drag.

If you brought your Boss to the insurance office, undamaged and looking to get an insurance quote, they would have commented on how absolutely glorious Ford paint jobs are nowadays.

If you want to take it to the next level, send an e mail to the appraiser's boss profusely thanking the company for insuring your Boss that has such a crummy paint job.

naa im good to go. If i was that unhappy i would have said somthin within the year and 1/2 iv'e had my baby !

If you can do it the Tiger hood looks and functions great, however you would probably pay some out of pocket to get is looking showroom perfect. Also check out have the decal style painted instead of having a new decal put on so that if this happens again you don't have to shell out more to replace another decal.

Exactly the same thing happened to me. Landscaper with a trailer of 1" stone, driving recklessly on the highway. He denied it to the cop, then the insurance who said they couldn't do anything. and cut me a check for $40 since my deductible was $500. How convenient that the estimate was so close to the deductible... I used the $40 to buy a Lanka kit after talking to a owner-operator of a shop who said that was his best advice. He said to do it right the rear quarter had to be removed and he was sure the paint would not age the same.

Here is a link for decals. This might be the link you were looking for. I believe others have used these for repairs.

Good luck with the repairs. In the end try not to stress too much. This stuff will happen, maybe now you can drive it with less worry since the damage is already done.

Guys - thanks so much for the feedback.

End of the day, Geico is cutting me a check for 2400.00+ That will cover a re-spray of the hood, bumper, both fenders and all 3 decals.

The adjuster knew all 3 places i went to get the estimates and add the fact the claims dept noted the car as a limited edition vehicle.

I am going to either put any surplus towards either my rubber fund or maybe window tint. I am also considering having the hood stripe painted. I'll let yall know how it turns out in the end.

Thanks again,
Rob

invest in a clear bra after the repairs , it's worth every penny trust me! AND many insurance companies will cover clear bra if it needs to be replaced for chipping / damage etc.

ALSO, if you know the company the truck was from, there are ways to file damage claims with the company directly for your money back

Agree with the clear bra. 99% of my chips from this were close to the tip but the other 1% hit near the middle and went through the vinyl. Unfortunately I didn't get the tag - just a description and no other identifiable markings. I was just your standard POS dump truck.

I have 1 stone chip right through the hood stripe. Stripe is white, car is Kona, it stands out pretty good.
