iPad Mini...

So I've been pretty firm with myself with wanting to keep my boss completely stock, inside and out. but I saw this video of an iPad Mini install in a car today and have to say i'm pretty tempted... I especially like how they made it so it looks completely built in, but you can pop the bezel to easily remove as well. Maybe by the time the LTE model of the iPad Mini comes out somebody will have sort of figured out something for mustangs. The normal size iPad always seemed a bit large to me for a dash install, but the Mini... seems like a good fit. I wonder if the metra kit could be modified to work...

I handn't thought about using the Mini in a car but that should get the aftermarket pretty excited. I agree the iPad was too large for most dash applications.

hm, looks like in addition to the two metra mustang kits, there is also a mustang kit from scosche as well. i like that the scosche kit has buttons in addition to touch screen, metra seems it would mount the unit (iPad) higher which might be nice.

Been seeing lots of Nexus 7's installed at the local car get together. That format seems to work really well. With Apple on the scene I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more kits available soon.

would be really nice to incorporate HVAC controls into it. and not have that external thing for volume control. 1 simple solution ipad mini that will do everything.

If you are gonna do this, go all out. I hope I can to this some day along with the big stereo upgrade. 8)

That looks like the inside of an X-Wing fighter....

Which is one of the many reasons I want this. I do wonder what that app is that shows on the photos. If it comes with a whole suite of apps specifically made for in-car use it would be even better.

My friend owns a stereo installation shop and he was showing me the alpine perfect fit kit. It's a very nice set up, but really expensive b/c that dash kit is specifically for the alpine INE-Z928HD unit which has an 8 inch screen!!!. The dash kit will run 500-600 dollars and the alpine unit is about 1500 dollars...Then if you want to upgrade your speakers and get a subwoofer and amp, your looking at more $$$. If I only had the money.. I'm actually scheduled to have the scosche kit put in as soon as it comes in... Going to put the stereo, speakers, subwoofer, and amps that I stripped from my truck before I sold it.... I'll try and post pics and comments once it's all in.
BTW that ipad in dash display from 3spro is an awesome setup! Very nice..tempting...Would be nice to have an ipad mini setup....

Sorry to bring back on old thread, but found a video of a very clean install with integrated app control etc.

I did mine the low tech way. I use it in combination with a contour rear mounted camera as my real-time rear view camera. With my roll bar, cross-bar, louvers and wing, its kinda hard to see back there on the track. lol
