Just wanted to let all the boss owners that are on the fence about getting a oil separator that they really work well and the boss engine will pass surprising amount of oil in short time. I purchased a JLT unit and was impressed with the quality and ease of installation as it uses OEM ford hoses and connectors. My engine only had 400 miles and when I took off the factory lines to install the JLT I could see oil in it. I checked it less than 200 miles later and sure enough there was oil in the bottom of the can. I was surprised how well these work.

I have the Moroso unit, and yes it catches a lot of oil also. I think it's a great cheap/easy mod. I would not want the amount of oil I have drained from the can entering my intake tract.

I emptied the JLT reservoir into a plastic drinking cup after 2000 miles and it measured about 3/8". Great product that seems to be working well.

Do you guys have a link for where you purchased the JLT unit?

Everyone's entitled to my opinion. ;)
You just gotta to wonder why Ford never supplied their own oil separator for the Boss. It is such a simple device to install and manufacture and this device makes so much sense from a maintenance perspective. This device is a no-brainer mod.

Why don't the 12s have bungs on the diff cover? Why is the clutch line made of plastic? Why did we get the MT82?

MMD, you know it is to save a few bucks. It adds up, and they thought the majority of owners would not track their cars (which I would guess is true) and the ones who do will do it themselves.

Maybe if I had the oil separator with a hose leading back to the motor I wouldn't need to add a quart every 500 miles :(

You're a wise man Cali. Once again you make a lot of sense.

Where is the oil coming from? Is it blow by?

no, its just oil from the pcv system. oil is whipped up into a mist that is pulled through the pcv system. this over time accumulates. this issue started to the best of my knowledge when they created the ls1 chevy motors. its moved into the mopar hemi and the ford crowd also.

i agree. the auto makers should be installing items such as this on motors. but the average buyer would never check em and they would fill up...causing other issues.....

Thanks :)

I noticed there are items for driver's and passenger's sides. Do you need both sides?

Yeah I was really surprised by the amount of oil it caught. It is def worth it for the 5.0

I got my separator the other day and put it on, but I was looking at it and wanna ask a question. Mine came with the fittings and lines on it already, but I was lookin at the top and where the mesh screen is. The mesh screen is on the side that comes from the pcv valve and the other side that goes to the intake is just open to the canister.

I got to thinking and it seems to me that the mesh screen would be better served on the side that goes out to the intake. Right now if there is anything more than a few drops of oil in there, I would think that every time I hit a bump or that thing shakes around it is possible that the oil could splash up and get sucked into the intake side anyway. If the mesh were on the side that leads to the intake the oil would get stopped by the screen the way that screen was intended to do.

Maybe mine was assembled on a fri. afternoon and they just messed up and put the fitting on the wrong sides? Can someone let me know which side that screen should be on? A simple swap of the fittings is all I'd have to do, but I wanna see what the consensus is first.

Jeez, seriously? Will it never end? The more I read these boards the longer the list becomes. So no I NEED an oil separator, to add to an MGW shifter, DSS driveshaft, and track wheels/tires. Holy hell ::)

lol you sound like my GF lol

lucky for you she's a girlfriend, and you don't have to explain NUTHIN. I have two Bosses, so I'm just lucky to have the car, and it aint easy justifying aftermarket parts to someone who doesn't know squat about a car except that it was $42000 and I talk about it like it is the greatest thing since Astroglide.
