well.. some more parts on order... it never ends... lol...
The motor is in... but not quite yet permanently.. fresh motor mounts are not being very forgiving.. still need just a bit more tweaking on the drivers side exhaust header.. darned steering box..lol... will be celebrating my much better halfs birthday this weekend so on break for about a week... tune in same bat time, same bat channel...
I apologize for not keeping current on this... there was a 2+ month break in there that I really didn't touch the car... life gets in the way sometimes...
Well we got the motor in for good.. set up the cooling system and pulleys.. alternator & battery are in... still need to sort out gauges and fuel system.. and exhaust... and a million little things...
my buddy still thinks it might fire up for the first time in over 20 years... shortly... getting excited about the project again...
slowly progressing.. fuel system almost complete... gauges almost complete... still need post shorty header exhaust... wrap up electrical and then fire it up for engine break in...
A work in progress is a project moving forward..................stay on course, Matey......Your efforts will be rewarded!!!!!!!!!......."I love it when a plan comes together"!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok... spent tonite doing the fuel lines and final wiring... it is now about ready to fire it up.. unfortunately my buddy is going on vacation starting tomorrow for a while until Thanksgiving... and I am taking off Friday for a week too... so possibly Thanksgiving weekend... will see how that pans out... but so much closer...
ok.. just parts.. but it was an epic challenge to choose wheels... they feel right... now I just need to pick a 200 or so treadwear tire to go with these beauties... running 17x8 square... already have the spacers...
EDIT
Any tire suggestions?
200ish treadwear streetable.. 225- 245 40-45 17's
Rob, my old friend, give me a call anytime, but you have a plethora of great choices, because almost any of the many great 200 TWR tires out there will work fantastic on your Mustang. Knowing how much you will actually drive the " Project Pony," the tread life is more than adequate for you with all of them, though some have better advantages for rain, noise, turn in , etc. but from Rival 1.5Ss, to RT660s, Conti Extreme Force, Bridgestone RE71RSs, A052, and maybe even Goodyear Supercar F1 3s ( may be too tall ). You are in good shape and all will help the Pony prance with the best of them.
next step is get the hood back on... tires for the wheels... order the racing seats... oh and a complete exhaust system... hood was supposed to happen this evening... my body did not cooperate.
here is a funny not funny for everyone... most here know small block Fords have 2 different possible firing orders.. well.. the Cam card stated "Standard" on the firing order.. we guessed wrong and it ran anyway.. but had 2 black plugs... 1 & 5... cleaned them up and wired it the "Right way" and she purrs like a kitten with a bad attitude... holds temperature perfectly, oil pressure is strong and flames shoot out of the headers... getting closer
Lol.. been there, done that. Basically rollers was where they changed firing order, about 1984.
FWIW, under the old firing order, if you pretended it was a small block chevy, the 18436572 firing order is the same. It's just that Ford numbers their cylinders different.
took off the loaner carb and rebuilt my carb and put it on... got it all adjusted... holds a nice idle and breathes fire out the shorty headers on command...
Fire one, fire two , ................looking forward to seeing your beast at a local Mustang Club Event! Er, that may be Springtime since the lovely Omaha Winter weather is here with a vengeance starting tomorrow. She sounds great and her singing so sweetly is the best Christmas Carol you could have!
