McLeod RXT Clutch Installation

It looks like I'm going to install an aftermarket clutch in my Boss. I'm pretty set on a McLeod but I'm trying to decide on the organic disc RST or ceramic disc RXT. if anyone has experience or an opinion on this please post up. I'm also open to other manufacturer suggestions.

Re: Clutch Recommendations

I am pretty happy with my Centerforce DYAD.

I have heard great things about Mcleod as well.

FWIW I hear the ceramic disc are better suited for the high heat environment of track racing.

Re: Clutch Recommendations

Re: Clutch Recommendations

Has anyone tried a Spec clutch...I had a P Trim in my GT500 and it was awesome. The car made 1200rwhp and never missed a beat.

Ford Racing CJ Competition Pulse Ring

Good call on the pulse ring. Make sure you order a new set of flywheel bolts as well, FRPP has a set of 8 you can get. I can send the PN later if you want. I have to ask S197forum if those need any kind of threadlocker (I think they need blue).

I'll be installing my RXT and CJ Pulse Ring on the weekend of May 4th. From what I've read, it sounds like the car will probably have to go to the dealer for a Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Relearn after the install.

I'll let you know how all my stuff goes if you're installing after me. Chris should be joining as well, he's done this before.

Too bad you didn't decide to order earlier though, Lethal had a 20% off sale a while back, got the RXT w/ aluminum flywheel for $1170 shipped.

This thing is going to be interesting to drive on the street for a few weeks w/ the aluminum flywheel, lol. It is gonna rev up super quick for downshifts now, though. The next step will be to add an aluminum DS to complete the rotating mass reduction :)

If you can post the part number for the flywheel bolt kit that would be great. Are you having clutch/shifting problems also?

Dude--you were in the car when I was getting that 4th gear lockout at Chuckwalla. I've had 2-3 shifting issues for a while as well on-track.

Also FYI on flywheel bolt sequence:

Oh yea. Those bolts work for our 5.0's as well?

That's what the guys at Evolution Performance say. Also there is a PN for ARP bolts if you prefer those instead.

I've had the clutch installed for a week now and have almost 500 miles on it plus one track day.

Remember there are two issues owners are having: clutch pedal sticking to the floor and shifting lock out. The bad news is my pedal stuck to the floor during my second session. At lunch time I removed the clutch pedal helper spring and it didn't stick to the floor the rest of the day. The good news is I didn't miss a shift yesterday in five sessions. I had hoped both would be fixed by replacing the clutch but it appears only one issue was resolved. I'm not calling it a fix yet for shifting lock out until I drive Sonoma and Laguna Seca which I'll do in the next month. You use second gear at both of those tracks and I had lock out almost every time shifting from 2->3. Stay tuned.

BTW the clutch engagement is getting better but still far from ideal for me. I suspect the engagement will continue to improve.
