Motor mount recommendations

    I had Steeda mounts recommended to me as being good so I got a set. Turns out the fellow recommending them actually had BMR mounts installed, not Steeda. Last track day of the year at Mosport coming out of 5 onto the straight I got 3-6 shift, could not get 3-4 so had to park the car.

    When I got it home and up on the lift I found the right side motor mount bolts were loose but I was suspicious it wasn't just loose bolts. On disassembly of the mounts today the mount material (both black and red bushings) is disintegrating and so it was collapsing. So obviously these mounts are not capable of taking heat, even with the heat shields in place.

    So I'm looking at BMR now, but just wondering if anyone has any first hand experience with any other mounts for an S550 for road course work? Don't want to go to solid mounts yet though as the car still gets driven on the street to and from the track and occasionally to go somewhere.

    I ran the BMR mounts with poly inserts for a couple years and now solid mounts. The poly held up well, but I’ll say there wasn’t a huge increase in NVH to the aluminum pucks. If anything I thought it was slightly better outside some cabin vibration around 1500 (which was there before as well)

    Those steeda mounts are fairly renowned for failing in the mode you specified. Though part of that is the heat and constant vibration against the poly pucks. Shielding it can help.

    Even the BMR units will wear in heavy track use but ultimately from my experience last much better than steeda’s product.

    Thanks for the info Chris. Interesting about the NVH with the solid aluminum pucks. Perhaps that's the way to go, for the amount that it gets driven on the street now it probably makes sense to go that route. I have a ton of nvh already with black bushings through the driveline and suspension so a bit more from the engine won't likely be much of a concern.

    It looks like Steeda is going to send me a new set of all black bushings which they say are more durable than the red ones. I'll give that one more try since the red one had failed much worse than the black one did and it's possible the damage to the black one was simply because the bottom red one failed. I'll be keeping a much closer eye on it though and if it acts up again then I'll bite the bullet and go to the BMR units with aluminum pucks.

    If you change your mind on solid mounts, the Watson Racing units are great.

    Just to update this, did a really minor track day with the Steeda black bushings only. I say minor because we only got 3 sessions on a wet track so not a lot of speed/G's/heat. Today getting ready to go to Mosport tomorrow I am checking bolts and I find the passenger side motor mount is loose again, took almost 3 rounds to get it tight. It was put in with blue loctite on the bolts. Time to try something else.

    BMR mm007 mounts with the solid aluminum mm006 inserts incoming. Enough is enough.
