Oil temperature gage only (no oil pressure gage)

So I'm about to get a nice oil cooler from Cooltech and its got provisions for two gages - usually oil temp and pressure. I'm only planning on the oil temp gage and I want to mount it in the vent air gage pod.

Going analog - I like these NASCAR Cup type gages from Spek.

Does this seem ok? the AEM gages are also nice but same price. No room for an oil pressure gage is the factory oil light fast enough to help? one guy recently dropped an engine by getting damage to his Setrab cooler and not realizing the low oil in time.

There is nowhere to mount that pressure gage so I'm thinking about a low pressure light like this wedged next to the temp gage in same pod.

Ideas appreciated thanks! Jeff C.

I use the auto meter elite series oil pressure gauge. It's programable for low and high pressure warning lights. Gauge lights is in the color you want at the pressure you want.

No need for a separate light. I have oil temp, pressure and water temp. The lighting helps with warm up and alerts you if pressures are below your seting.

I too use the Autometer Elite gauges both oil pressure and temperature. Fully programable like TMSBOSS has indicated. I use a dual pillar pod from here. http://www.speedofsoundllc.com/2005-upMustangPod.html I also installed the dimmer to allow for full dimming capability for night/low light operation.

Go with the auto meter elite gauges. Search the internet for the best price. I bought mine from autoplicity.

If you do not want to cut your dash to mount the gauges, I would mount them in a Speed of Sound gauge pod.

You need to be aware the CoolTech kit mounts the oil pressure and temperature sensors in the oil thermostat housing. The threads in the housing are NOT NPT, they are Japanese PT. PT is an alternate abbreviation for British Standard Pipe Tapered. Do not try to install an American 1/8" NPT fitting or you will damage the housing.

To mount the temp sensors you will need to purchase a Greddy oil temp adapter 16400720. This adapter is also 1/8 PT and is used to mount the oil pressure sensor. You will have to re-tap the adapter for 1/8" NPT.

Mounting the pressure sensor will require the purchase of a 1/8" BSPT to NPT adapter. You can purchase the adapter from McMaster-Carr. Do not purchase the Auto Meter adapter. The Auto Meter adapter is labeled incorrectly and is BSPP and not BSPT.

The CoolTech kit does not fit correctly if you have the aluminum 302S radiator, Ford Racing part number M-8005-MGT.

Mount the gauge using the Roush gauge pod. Many of us use it and it's easy to install.

2012 Boss you just dumped a full salt shaker on my oil cooler plans! First off, thank god I posted this because I would have had no clue what was coming.

If I don't do any pressure gage and just do the temp will that eliminate any type of re tapping? Pipe fitting is not my strength.

Do you have that cooltech unit? Sounds like you do. Is there an option I van get w them for a gage ready to go so its turn key?

Is there a better cooler option that does not have the British thread and works w US gage threads?

Make your own. It will be cheaper too.

Or use an extra sandwich plate like this. But you'll have to make you have enough place to fit it. It's about 1"1/8 thick

Really good way to go here, OEM look, IMO.

I do have the cooler with auto meter gauges. For the pressure sensor you need the adapter from McMaster-Carr.

The CoolTech kit is a very good kit. The remote thermostat is a Japanese unit which is why it has PT threads. When I added up the cost of the parts in the kit, there is only a few hundred dollars mark up.

Now, if you can fabricate your own lines and mounting brackets, you could build your own kit.

thanks 2012-Boss.. no oil pressure gage so I assume it ships with a plug on that side. Ford the temp sensor your previous quote

So I obtain said Greddy temp adapter http://www.frsport.com/Greddy-16400720-M18-Thread-1-8-NPT-Sensor-Gauge-Adapter_p_16528.html and that allows the spek oil temp gage to plug right in? The following comment about re-tapping for 1/8" NPT is assuming I use an American gage that has std. size fittings not a Japanese or British gage. but re-tapping sounds scary when dealing with liquid oil.

Edit: Here is the Mcmaster fitting needed to go from 1/8" PT (BSPT) to 1/8" NPT - i.e. American Oil temp / pressure.

I hope these are not the wrong Autometer type fittings!

I sent cooltech an email to see if there is a more simple way to pull this off..

Quick update hopefully a lot easier, Cooltech said i should be using my included setrab 72 row type 1 actual cooler to connect the oil temp gauge

They pointed to this link at Summit

can someine here olease help me at the stupid level? I was not aware the setrab had an extra port!!!

Please help recommend the proper fitting and gauge from summit, much appreciated
