Hi all - getting close to when I'll begin work on installing a fuel cell. Would you mind sharing pics of how your setup is mounted? It seems like the most common is to cut a giant hole in the trunk area and then drop in a fuel cell cage. Also looks like the GT4 cars have a custom metal box instead of a cage. Curious on the details of what others have done

It costs a little more but I had mine mounted in the tire wheel well. Most applications show a 12 gallon cell, but I wanted a 15 gallon one so it had to be done, though the wait was not bad. There were some things that needed cut underneath, but not a lot . Clean set up and it sat nice and low in the back with few things needed to be moved.

Thanks, Bill! I have the 22 gallon ATL container picked out. Since I run E85, I need all the extra capacity I can reasonably fit :)

🤣 🤣 🤣. Come join us. Always looking to grow the hobby. We will be at ECR in Decatur, TX in September.
What weekend? I'll come check it out if I can. It'll be good inspiration even I have to pace myself. I gotta' survive the wife's wrath on this current build first.

Got few questions what clear line is. Vent originally just into trunk.i vented it thru key hole for trunk.
The top cover also covers what's left of spare tire area.
Yes I agree quick fuel is not needed but came with car also looks cool. Lol

I built a bulkhead and can that welded into the trunk to minimize the strength that was lost from hacking it open.
It also adds additional protection since its basically a can inside of a can, so its way more puncture resistant.
Feel free to ask questions.

Okay - one more question on this setup (my cell box comes Friday). How thick is the metal you made the box out of? Did you use the same for the bulkhead you made?

Edit: spelling, because apparently I write about as well as a 3rd grader

The box is 16g steel. The bulkhead is 16g aluminum.

To clarify: The box is 16 gauge steel...the floor section I made to accept the box is 16 gauge steel. The Bulkhead is .060 aluminum.
The Bulkhead I am referring to is basically a rear seat delete kit I made to close out the trunk area from the passenger cabin as per rules.
"Fuel cell must be separated from the drivers compartment by a metal firewall."

Do you have any pictures of the install?

ATL has some fuel cells that are made to be mounted in the tire well.
