Racing Brake 2 Piece Rotors

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

I've been looking into the various 2 piece brake rotor options available and came across these offerings from Racing Brake:

Front:

Rear:

Any thoughts?

I'm not familiar with them but am considering all alternatives. I need to find something that will hold up at Road America. The lower weight of these is nice but doesn't say if the savings is in the aluminum hat or the iron ring or both. I think mass is your friend when it comes to rotor durability.

Difficult to justify that pricing when stock blanks cost under $300 for a set, all four corners
I hear ya. My ONLY concern would be grenading a hat going into Canada Corner or Turn 5, but I'm not sure how likely that would be. Where are you getting stock blanks for that price?

I'm getting the Centric blank fronts from www.topbrakes.com

http://www.topbrakes.com/carSeriesDetails.php/44069/Brake+Rotors/CENTRIC/Centric+Premium+Rotors/2012+FORD+MUSTANG+Boss+302+Model+w%2FBrembo+brakes

Looks like they have the rears for $70/each.

I used to get the rears from www.newtakeoff.com http://www.newtakeoff.com/ford_mustang_rear_brake_rotors_pair_2005-2008.aspx when they were $40/set! Looks like prices have gone up on rears!
ROUSHOverstock on Ebay sometimes has cheap rear sets as well.

I got quoted a set of stock replacements for my car for about 350 from my dealership believe it or not. With pads it comes out to 516 for a full set of replacement brakes.

The rear rotors in the link in the OP post doesn't indicate a size. Are they also 14" rear?

EDIT: nm, it's in millimeters....

Here's some I looked at a while ago: http://www.girodisc.com/Rotors_c_945.html

I've actually got those on my dresser right now. Should be installing them this week and going to Road Atlanta this weekend. I let you know what i think or if they break on my. lol.

Girodisc uses Coleman rotors and their own hats. I don't believe Racing Brake makes their own rotors, if I'd have to guess I'd say they are Centric but that's just a guess. I say that because I know at least some of 'their' pads are actually made by Hawk. I'm a believer in 2 pc up front but even more of a believer of a good slot design (not drilled) and cryo treatment. My fronts are Coleman rotors, custom slots by Weston Motorsports and cryo treated by Diversified Cryogenics. For my rears I have DBA4000's now but will be switching to Ford OEM blanks and will ahve them slotted and frozen through Weston Motorsports.

The Girodisc rotors do not use Coleman rotor rings. Our rotors are 48 vane rotors versus the 32 vane Coleman/FTBR rotors. We are not a paying advertiser so I will leave it at that, below is a picture of our rotors, visually very different from the Coleman rotors.

Mike I apologize for the misinformation I must of been misinformed that about the source of your rotors. do you manufacture them yourself ?

No worries just wanted to clear things up, we work with a casting company here in the states and get a majority of our rotors semi-finished machined (basically just OD and ID cut, no flange or anything) and we finish them up in house. However we're currently in the process of buying another couple machines that will make it easier for us to machine the rotor from the raw casting.

Where is the best place to buy the Girodisc's from?

Check my post above. Im on a phone or i would re-paste it.
Is girodisc really the best place to buy these at? If so, I'm sorry for the dumb question.

Oh. Good point. I see what you mean now. Not sure if they have resellers or not. The link has been the only place I've seen them, but that's all I know.

Thanks man. I appreciate it.

As far as i have seen that is the best place. Straight from the guys who make them. If you start dealing with middle men you might see the price increase due to processing fees. But i could be wrong. Ive just never looked.

Thanks for all the input.

I had the girodisc rotors for my Evo, so I may just go that route again.

What concerns me the most about the Racing Brake rotors (apart from the price) is their "open slot" design:

http://www.racingbrake.com/v/main/two_piece_compare.asp

I fear that will make them more prone to cracking (although Racing Brake seems to claim the opposite).

Anyhow, in case anyone's interested, I came across what appears to be a pretty good deal for one piece slotted rotors @$299 with free shipping:
