The large steel dampers that are mounted to the rear lower control bracket. Has anyone removed these and what was the noise effect ?

I removed mine. A slight gear like noise has shown up since. Usually shows up around highway speeds with load.

I think they weigh around 5-7 lbs each? Unfortunately it's low on the rear of the car......the opposite end of where we most need weight reduction.

Thanks, That is the information I was looking for. I am going to install the whiteline recocation brackets and will not reinstall the weights. If it is to loud I can always reinstall the dampers.

Let us know what they weigh when you're done if you don't mind. With all the rear end noise I already have I can't imagine I'll notice it if I pull mine.

A nice option for those holes is the FTBR S-197 Rear Axle Tie Down Eye. Scroll down about half way on the page below.
