The 2013+ manuals have Hill Assist, which maintains brake pressure for 2 seconds after you release the brake pedal when on an incline. When I was much younger and had to start on a hill, I'd pull up on the parking brake handle to help hold the car until I got the clutch engaged enough. Over time, i guess I've learned to heel-toe the brake & gas to hold the car and keep revs up as I dump the clutch with my left foot.

The other thing to remember is that clutches are like brake pads. A new clutch needs to build up a layer of friction material on the flywheel face before it really starts working well. If you slip the cluch too much, you can glaze it just like brake pads.

I've been practicing and am getting better at modulating it. It's a little tricky modulating on a steep hill. But that's what I wanted. Something that goes up to the borderline of being a performance clutch but not quite over. It'll take some getting used to but so far it does what I was expecting it to do.

Another update. Freezing weather in Texas today. The new transmission feels BETTER when cold. This is a change as previously it felt better hot. I'm guessing this is a good thing as it may mean that the parts are fitting more properly together? Maybe it'll loosen up more over time.

I'm finding that during the warmer weather, I have to be very deliberate about my shifts as I have had the shifter pop out of gear a couple of times due to me not shoving the shifter into gear hard enough. This stopped happening when I started being more forceful with my shifts. In this cold weather, it seems to shift a bit easier.

Another thing I noticed that there's still a very slight whine in 1st-4th gear. It is much quieter than before where I was basically getting the supercharger sound. Now the sound is barely noticeable.

When the car was a V6 and I had the V6 transmission in it, there was no whine except for in reverse. With the BOSS transmission I get no whine in reverse. (Reverse was not replaced. They replaced 2nd-5th gears and the input shaft, so those are AMP gears. Also put in bronze forks and AMP synchros -- I did ask what the synchros were. TX Drivetrain says they're carbon lined just like the synchrotech ones.)

I still get the spin-up sound from the weights on the Centerforce clutch. It seems a bit quieter now but I'm guessing it'll always be there to a degree. Not too concerned about it since I know what it is and hear that it isn't unusual. Just noting b/c I hadn't read about it in other posts about this clutch. The clutch does grab great and it is certainly more difficult to modulate, but I'm getting used to it.

If it seems to shift better in cold weather, you might try going one step thicker on the gearbox oil next time you change it. Or at least it would be a good question to ask the rebuilder next time you talk to them.

Thanks - I'll mention it. Builder recommends Dex 3 ATF. They filled it with Valvoline at the shop and told me to change it at 2000 miles. They said synthetic oils cause additional wear on the synchros...

Why do you recommend thicker fluid in this case? Just b/c the virgin parts can handle it or is there another reason?

BTW, I just about hit the breakin mileage for the clutch... Time for some fun!

The cold temps mean the oil is thicker, and I'm thinking that may be affecting syncro engagement so it's a bit easier to slip into gear.

Makes sense! I'll ask TX Drivetrain what they think.

I looked up the viscosity values for Valvoline Dex 3 ATF and got: 40C: 34.5, 100C: 7.1

Possible alternatives:
Amsoil DCT: 40C: 38.8, 100C: 7.7
Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 (what @Mad Hatter uses in his Calimer Stage 3 MT-82): 40C: 97.8, 100C: 16 (thick stuff!)
Motorcraft (stock stuff): 40C: 32.2, 100C: ???
BG SynchroShift 2: 40C: 37.85, 100C: 7.11
MOTUL GEAR POWER FE 75W: 40C: 30.7, 100C: 5.8
Royal Purple Synchromax: 40C: 39.7, 100C: ???
Redline MTL 75W80 (ty @EF1 ): 40C: 50.8, 100C: 10.4

Will have to look around and see what is good. Most people on this forum seem to recommend Amsoil, BG or Motul...
But if you stick with what oil makers recommend they all seem to have about the same viscosity...

Another one to consider is Redline MTL I ran it in my MT82 for years and it shifted great at 90k miles. It met the original Ford spec for the MT82 back in 2011 but not the later revised specs.
