Check out this video of an A4 RS rolling at Willow Springs. Can someone please post the direct link to the video. I can't seem to do it on my phone.

Yes you do, you have to drive it off track on the left side and hope for the best. In slow motion you can see multiple skid marks all over this turn where drivers lost it left, then over corrected and made the same off track exit.

Let's hope, the other off track excursions ended better than this one. I will say this, that Audi was laying down some speed prior to the accident. The car was so quiet at speed.

Was happy to read that he was not severely injured.

Be safe out there,
Dave

Some say he has a tattoo of his face on his face.
That's why I drive closer to 7/10s max. But definitely leave two wheels off, especially after watching.

On a side note, no airbag deployment? That's crazy. And how many times did it actually roll? Hard to tell with the dirt being kicked up.

Just to add to this. Leaving only two wheels off is not always the answer. Obviously it depends upon the specific situation, but just a 2 off can cause all sorts of damage to your car based on the state of the runoff, and trying to pull the car back on the track after a 2 off can cause issues for those behind you. All things being equal, always consider just keeping the wheel straight and dump the whole car off track with a 4 off. If I did that at VIR two years ago I would not have had to replace $3500 in parts and lose over a month of track time....

Here's how to just roll with it, no pun intended.

I also had an incident that weekend where I went two off over there, but again, if you think it's coming, straighten the wheel and come back on as gently as possible.

Ok, I'll say it . . . . . . Damn! You can Dive!

Nice re-entry, and your new engine sounds great. It was kind of spooky how quite that Audi was at speed.

Thanks for sharing,
Dave

Not so fast, guys--that's not me in the video I posted up there. :) That's actually from a Corvette, driven by the national champion in our race class.

Just the best example I could find of how to deal with this correctly and calmly.

I know I've posted this video of mine here before but it goes well with the topic. Just like the audi driver, I turned in too early on turn 7 at TWS and found myself in a position where I was going to be tracking out a little wider than I should have been. I made the decision to drive straight off and hope for the best. Maybe I could have saved it, but had I tried and gone off sideways things could have been much worse.

Much respect to the audi driver for his write-up.

In the video it doesn't look to me like he got far enough over to touch dirt. Is it only me?

It's not only you. I didn't see any motion of the car indicating it either. I think he just suffered a pucker moment.
