Who’s running sparco evo in s197? I have a 2011 and am wondering exactly what I need to order. Preferably a sliding base instead of fixed

I have the Sparco Rev II seats, which I believe are the older version of the EVO. I used the Sparco base brackets specific to the S197’s along with the Sparco side mounts. I started out with the Sparco sliders too but quickly removed them and went fixed mount. Too much play in the sliders. If you’re dead-set on sliders, Recaro seem to be more solid. Read through this recent thread on seat bases - it’s for S550’s, but the info is applicable to our cars.

Thank you for the info. I’ve never installed racing seats before. Any lessons learned or things I should be aware of

The seat itself is easy. Where it gets more complex is the compromises between track vs street on the restraint system. Street driven with air bag, the stock seat belts should be used. The buckle side on our cars is attached to the OE seat frame, so you’ll have to make sure the seat base you choose has a tab for mounting the buckle (the Sparcos do, not sure about the others). Buckling it was cumbersome with the high sides of the race seat, and honestly I didn’t spend much time on it before pulling the stock belts out - mostly because I was 95% track, 5% street. Others have made the stock belts work so it can be done - I just can’t offer any tips/tricks.

For track use, a 6 point harness coupled with the race seat is the ideal combo. Most harnesses will require a harness bar or 4 point roll bar to properly secure them, so further down the rabbit hole. Schroth makes some that work with the factory attachment points - there’s several members on here that use them and can chime in.

Something to keep in mind as you run head first down the slippery slope - there are groups, NASA in particular, that do not permit the use of a fixed-back/hardshell seat with stock belts, and/or without a rollbar. NASA CCRs 2024.0 - look at sections 11.3, 11.4.7. 11.4.8, and 11.4.12 for HPDE and TT.

FWIW, at our Sept 2024 event, we had a driver in a Tesla Model 3 show up to tech with a fixed-back seat and stock belts. He did not pass tech, and was not allowed on track. We also had a TT C6 Corvette at tech that same weekend with a fixed-back/hardshell seat, 5 point harnesses, and a harness bar. The driver kept calling it a "roll bar", which it is NOT. We had a discussion about terminology, coupled with a gander at the CCRs. 11.4.7 covers what NASA defines as a "roll bar".

It's really wise to read the various rulesets for the organizations a driver plans to drive with so that you aren't caught out when you show up for an event.
