It has been done in the Fox body, but there is less room in the fenders, too.

I know it's been 'done', but not with clearance to have a decent workable suspension, or factory type stamped steel K, electronics, etc. Looking at the S550 engine bay, doesn't it look cramped already even with a smaller air box and re-shaped fusebox cover?
 
Yup. But if you think that is bad just look at the 370Z! They don't want you having room to work on it without specialized tools and a lift. It's job security for their lousy techs.
