On another related note, my brother reports that the brakes on the Fusion Energi I sold him look brand new after 70k miles. Regen has it's advantages!

On another, another related note, I rode an electric bicycle on Sat. Retail was $4500 but it was quite nice. It'll cruise at 30 MPH and is legal for paved bike trails, LOL. I'd like to have an electric dirt bike to be honest.

I just don't think it's got the battery capacity to haul me up about 3000 vertical feet over forty minutes to meet my requirements. That's the use case of me going to the "Upper Station" in my Volunteer Fire Association. But, it's close. Maybe in a year or two.

EXACTLY. I have five cars, three drivers. I can take any of these I have and drive to anywhere in the states and Canada. I only have to stop for gas, food and sleep. Driver being the weak link.
An EV does not allow me to do so. My personal go to is my F-250 diesel crew cab. One of the most comfortable road vehicles I have driven.
Would an EV like a Tesla be a great commuter, toy? Oh hell yes. Does Tesla make a great looking car? It’s fantastic. If all I needed to do was drive to work and back, a commuter, I would consider dropping more than I spend on my first house on a Tesla.
My point is and has been that the EV is NOT ready for prime time, long distance work. It cannot be the families prime mover for most families. The technology is lacking. That and the price point makes it a toy for most. Lots of fun but won’t get all of the work done.
A car buddy in KC is a Tesla service manager. He loves the car and also sees the shortcomings. Limited market, limited range. Does that mean I would not buy one as I toy if I had the cash? Maybe. A lot of cars on the list before the Tesla.

I love my F250 too. Early 99 PSD with a six speed manual, crew cab 4x4. But, it's probably 10x the cost of going down the road as my Focus Electric. Probably commands 10x the respect as well, LOL.

Traded 2003 F-250 diesel a bit early. Should have kept it a few more years. Although, I love the 2016 Lariat.
The long wheelbase provides a great ride on the highway. The seats are bigger than most recliners, and they recline. Wife does not have to decide which clothes to bring on a trip. Although a limitation would be appreciated at times. LOL.
Dont get me wrong. I love most cars, the Tesla included. And yes, the EV is likely the car of the future. It’s just not for everyone today.
Cars I have hated, most from a distance. The AMC gremlin. A car should not rust away before the payments book is empty. The Vega. Who knew an aluminum piston would wear out an aluminum cylinder wall? Yea....everyone. The last generation, 1975 Charger. When it’s over, it’s over. Or so we thought. LOL.

My problem with all the incentives is the discipline, or lack thereof, to apply the $$$'s to the loan. I hate putting anything down on cars, so I finance them 100%. After year one, I'll have a balance on the loan of about $25k, but the car will be worth about half that. For now I'm paying $650/mo on the Focus in an effort to pay the bulk off within about 3 years. My hope is that Ford will have something bigger and fully electric to replace it with.

A Tesla could race back and forth in front of your house and you'd never hear it! Funny how some euro-trash cars actually pipe fake engine sounds into the cabin. I wonder how long until there's loudspeakers pumping it outside too? My friend has one of the i8's. After our last cruise, he's thinking of selling and getting something that "sounds better" lol.

Something resembling a gas tank is still in front of the rider......Is that where the Battery is??

Not sure but I think the battery is where the engine usually is (the thing with cooling fins on it). On the older Harley V-Rod, the gas tank was actually under the seat even though it had a cover that looked a lot like a gas tank.

That's what I think as well, the motor is the silver part on the bottom and the batteries are above it with the fins. In an EV it's the batteries that get hot more so than the motor. The motor can still get hot but the permanent magnet motor in the Model 3 doesn't get as hot as the induction motor in the S and X. BTW the batteries are liquid cooled.
