I have some new forgestar wheels with MPSS that I have run at the track twice. Each time at the end of the day I got a tire pressure sensor fault.56933692d754eecf8885f71c12bb5153.jpg

When I took it to the guy that installed the TPMS he took the tires off and found that each wheels' TPMS had rotated 180 degrees!!! At the end of my last day it happened again.

I don't want to tear down my wheels and tires after every track day. Has anyone else run into this or have a suggestion?

Thanks a lot.

Jake

They are rubber. This is what came on the TPMS when I bought them.

Straightliner- did you have the same issue?

These metal valve stems work with the sensors in your car. I ran them on my track wheels with the stock sensors.

More info including take off sensors below.

Thank you for the information. Can you help me understand what swapping the metal for the rubber will do for the TPMS?

Probably nothing for them coming loose other than they didn't come loose when on my track wheels or others that I know of. Metal is preferable for track and high speed use. Note the GT350's come with metal stems stock.

Makes sense I will try. Guess now I have to have the tires removed to fix the TPMS and then rebalanced...

I'm not familiar with how the stems fasten to the sensor, but could it be that the threads are stripped and not providing enough clamping force to hold them in place?

I had a similar experience with a TPMS fault at the track last Friday. In the morning I ran three sessions with a set a ForgestarCF5 wheels/NT01 Tires, TPMS sensors and no fault issues. At lunch I switch over to a set of BBS FRPP wheels/ Pirelli slicks, TPMS sensors and ran four sessions. At the end of the third session the TPMS fault light came on. All four tires had 37 psi, hot. I ran the forth session with the TMPS fault light on. Loaded up the car on the trailer, drove home and unloaded the car and parked it in the garage and the TPMS fault light was still on. The next morning when I started the car to move it so I could put the street wheels back on the TPMS fault light was off. The sensors are about 5 years old, maybe one of the TMPS sensor batteries is getting weak??? Or maybe the sensors in the BBS wheels were not yet recognized by the TPMS system as I did not re-calibrate/retrain the system after changing the wheels. This is the first time I have seen this.

I don't see physically how the sensor could rotate 180 degrees if either the valve stem rotated or the mounting screw is loose. If the sensor were to rotate it would contact the barrel of the wheel after rotating ~20 degrees. The sensor is attached to the bottom of the valve stem - think of a propeller at the end of the shaft with the sensor being the propeller and the valve stem being the shaft and then look at the angle the valve stem is with respect to the wheel barrel. --> shop manual procedure and diagrams: http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=738&viewfile=Wheel%20and%20Tire.pdf

The Discount Tire dealers here in Denver stock the Dill metal valve stems. Check your local Discount Tire to see if they stock them too and you could save some the shipping and postage expense after paying local sales tax.

FWIW, I've been having a lot of problems with the TPMS sensors coming loose on BBS wheels where the stem goes through the wheel and is secured by the nut. I've taken to marking them with a paint pen (sharpies are too easily washed off) to make sure the nut stays tight. They are steel BTW.
While I'm hear, would any of you happen to know if the 07 GT500 sensors are band or valve stem, and can the be replaced with valve stem types?

They are band type - based on a couple of posts at SVTPerformance about changing from band to stem sensors on 07-09 GT500s - there are aftermarket valve stem sensors made to work with the 07-09 TPMS modules. For example, American Muscle sells them, Oro-Tek is the manufacturer www.orotekusa.com/

I had the dill valve stems installed today so I'll see how it goes. My next track day is one month away. I'll update at that time. Ironically my last track day the light was on driving to the track but never came on at the track then came back on when driving home... Very strange behavior.
