I dont know if this helps.. But I while back, we had random codes coming in at the track and we ended checking all the harness leads going to the PCM with a tester. Found wires that where hanging on by a few copper threads. We fixed them and since then they have not come back. Worth a try..... (Boring and tedious but not hard...)

Still trying to figure out WTF is going on. Took out the ABS R/S module to pass inspection to get my registration and found one screw had broken off. There was but one mm of the screw showing but using a pair of small vice grips, I managed get it out with some patience. What you see here is the results of twenty minutes of trying to get that broken friggin' screw out.

It was sixty degrees outside and after a fifteen minute drive, I'll be damned if the dash board didn't light up again. Usually, it only happened in high temperatures. Needless to say I failed inspection with all the lights lit up. Driving home, they went away and then came back on again. It did this several tymes in the fifteen minute drive home. The difference this tyme was that I shut the car off and it started right up and the lights went away, as oppose to the summer tyme when it wouldn't start.

I have a new wiring harness and VCT solenoids ready to go in and will have pull the engine to do this and give the motor a good look over. I can't help but think it's gotta be electrical and something to do with the PCM but I'm getting no help from either Ford dealer I took the car to.

The harness and Solenoids can be swapped with the engine in. Just take your time and remember there is a sensor tight to the back of the block. Yea, took me a while to find where that one went.

Inspection?? What's that?? If you live outside the high pollution areas, there are no inspections in Illinois. At least for now. o_O

Yeah Tracy, I know you can put in the new harness but I'm so frustrated, I'm gonna have the engine pulled so I can look at everything. I'm loaded to the gills with consumable parts and want to refresh everything I can.Check every bolt and gasket and wrap everything possible to cut back on the heat. My goal is to get out to PPIR with NASA in April for my first track day in quite a while. Hope to get things sorted out so I can do PMP in May, PPIR again in June, HPR in August and hopefully make it out to MPH for a reunion with you boys in September.

Hi Kirk,

Very sorry to hear of your troubles. I know you have done a few modifications but don't recall a lot that were related to the PCM/ECM. Aside from the ABS Module have you done anything that would alter the way the vehicle communicates with itself? Did these issues start with the ABS Module or were they occurring before that install?

Just trying to troubleshoot a bit. I do agree that if you can take out the whole motor that will certainly give you the space needed to replace all of the consumables as well as make any other modifications you have in mind.

I wish you great success ahead

Best,
Charles

Literally read through this entire thread. Beautiful car and very tasteful mods.

very bummed to hear of the issues here at the end. I believe it is 100% electrical. It’s always been for me something loose, frayed or busted. Could be a fuse. But I’m sure you’ve checked that. I wasfor sure gonna say it was that abs module you put in. But you said you removed that.

PCM’s are pricey, but you could have fried your PCM. I’ve done that before messing with electrical components in the car. Even jumping the car, or having a bad battery. Random fluctuations of voltage can really mess with the PCM. I would recommend changing PCM before pulling the engine.

Check your wires. Every single one of them.

good luck. Don’t give up.

Agreed that it must be electrical as well but I've checked all the wiring already and there's no obvious signs of trouble. Thus the idea of changing out the entire harness and while I'm at it, new coils and plugs. Already changed out all the fuses and relays, new battery installed and heat shielded a new FRPP mini starter motor. Had the PCM checked at two different Ford dealers. They didn't like the mods I did even though two of four that required relearns were FRPP products and the other was just a CAI and new clutch. They tell me they think the PCM is operating normally. They're just oozing with confidence.

Thanks for all the well wishes!

A leisurely drive without a lot of airflow could still result in underhood temps high enough that could affect your PCM. I would take some flexible cold packs and place them around the PCM and see if it eliminates or at least delays the symptoms. If it does, then that pretty much points to the PCM or connections in the immediate area.

@carver that's how I feel going into this. I'll start with the battery cable assembly first and see how it goes. I mean, how hard can this be, right? I've pulled most of the clips I can reach on top and will get under the car this Saturday. My lovely Wench estimates this as a double dozen cuss job but I'm taking the over!
