The short version.. we were a factory supported team for "brand X" after we finally got the car in the winner's circle last year, along with another podium and two poles, the factory pulled the funding just prior to Daytona. The vehicle we were running was a nightmare, replacing the entire drivetrain every race, so when we were racing on our dime we took the weapon of choice....the Ford Mustang. We ran at the Circuit of the Americas and went a lap down early with our first driver, and with 35 cars in the class you'll never make that up. So it became a test session, which is OK, because we were needing experience with the car, and more importantly the car came home in one piece. The car was completely built in about 4 weeks.
We are extremely underfunded and just going from race to race. It looks like we should make the Barber race in April but we need all the help we can get so if your in Alabama the first week of April stop by and see us.

This Daytona this is what a Roush Boss 302 looks like, we're smiling because it has a 50 hour service life, not a 4 hour one..on a good day

Very cool, thanks for posting. I always like passing brand S er I mean brand X at track days. What is your role on the team?

Tire Specialists..keeping track of, how much, which ones. what corner, how much air and how many heat cycles..plus some stuff that I can't talk about.

BTW I love the blue with white accents we have two of those that run in the series.

Welcome to the site, we are happy to have race teams checking in. One of your team members is already a member here and a great guy to meet up at the track. Too bad about what happened but nice to see a top rate team like yours running a Boss. The car looks fantastic in that color scheme.

I am not sure what the fans were like with the other manufacture but seems like the Ford people follow racing more closely than others. With your invite to stop by I think you will get more folks out to the races when the series rolls into their town. Now if I get a few laps that car I will drive up to Barber myself ;D

I would love to hear more about the build, what was the history of that car?

Welcome to the site and away from Brand S ;) We're pulling for you to represent the blue oval. Interesting I just ordered a pallet of Continental takeoffs from the Rolex race at Daytona. I'm hoping they weren't heat cycled too many times ;D

The car has no history, it was a body in white purchased by phoenix performance and built right after Daytona by the guys at the shop in record time, I might add. After COTA they did some testing on it and can't wait for Barber.

Your cars look great, even if I am also partial to the blue. ;)

I stopped by your paddock, but you guys were busy getting ready for practice and I don't like to bother people. If I had known you were so "grassroots", I would have rolled-up my sleeves and helped. Not the first time I have done that (helped the Capaldi crew R&R a Boss engine at a WC race in Utah, last year). Anyway, I spent a lot of my time visiting with the Capaldi team at COTA, since I had already got to know them. Wish I could have met all of the Boss teams, but there are a lot now and it's hard to get around to everyone, especially when they are so busy. If you make it back to Austin again, I promise to come by and meet you.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the rest of the season!

Jimmy

Welcome to the site guys! How does that stuff compare to Formula-V Traction Treatment? I've used that with success before.

Also perhaps you guys could share some of your tire data with us, there are a bunch of us here that like to run Conti take offs for track events. Maybe you could even sell some used tires...............

I've heard there are new compounds for the 2013 season--how do you guys like them and how do they compare to the old stuff?

They may be able to explain better but talking with another team the new compound this year is not new. It is the Indy compound used last year at the race. During practice there were tires issues (blowing out) and they came up with this compound. If anything it is harder then the other used last year at other tracks.

I don't recall any great "tire issues" like a lot of blow outs but there was some blistering. Basically the new tire is the Indy compound, the problem at Indy is that the oval portion of the track is like glue while the infield portion has (apparently) been used as a service road for the rest of the year and is very slick, right after we were there the bikes ran and they got a couple of front runners hurt pretty bad. I guess Conti decided to run a compound that would tend not to blister as much on the oval part, it was compromise either way and that was the safe way to go, now it's used at all the tracks which simplifies things for everybody. It does appear to be a harder compound as well.

I like Goat P##S, but no matter what you use apply it liberally to the tire and rotate the tire for a equal covering (no really wet spots) Once it starts to sink in to the rubber find some commercial rolls of saran wrap and cover the entire tire tread surface, store them that way for the next event. Once you unwrap them apply a film of GP, just wipe it on, with a sponge, and you should be ready to go. One word of warning on GP, once the tire gets really low on tread, if you slide it at all, it will go right down to the cord, (because the tire at that level) is so saturated. Any traction aid will do that just GP works a little better at softening the rubber than most.

contact Phoenix Boss on that, I know he has sets of Contis in 275X18

Good info thanks, I remember hearing about it but thought a few tires had let go. Guess that is not the case.

What kind of radiator are you guys running? Is it a Ron Davis? I know the FR500C had an integrated oil cooler in their radiator. Does yours as well? I'm looking to get one like that for my car.

Well, look at this.. My Boss and my roommate on the forum.

Welcome guy's!

BTW, those are nice pics of the 36 car yellowjacket.
