If you can't get a line on a BF hook, see if ZL1's are in stock:Anyone have a blowfish tow hook that they are selling? Or know where I can buy one ? Out of stock on the blowfish site . Thanks
I hope blowfish comes back and starts production again . Somebody must know him to find out infoAfter 10 months in the shop for a major motor rebuild, it's time to resume tracking my '11 GT. What should be the simplest of mods, a TOW HOOK, is turning out to be not so simple. WTF? Nearly every major auto manufacturer has some kind of simple provision for installing tow hooks (usually a threaded female hole in the bumper bracket behind fascia) but not Ford.
Ford Performance offers a plate you gotta weld to the OEM bumper...really? Or a Lightweight Bumper Bracket that requires you remove your welded-on OEM bumper....really? What is it with Ford and welding?
How 'bout the ZL-1 Add-On version? It's certainly sturdy looking, but it's obviously not well thought out - wrong bolt lengths, etc. And of course, no instructions, templates, or suggestions to make installation easy.
I've read a lot of good references about the Cool-Tech tow hook, but never actually seen one.
IMO, Blowfish had the most elegant solution: simple, easy bolt-on, logically placed with minimal bumper cover or grille modification. AND...they provided the option for splitter strut mounts and a rear bumper mount version. How could such well thought-out engineering become a failure? Anyone know why they're no longer making them?
Enough lamenting...anyone have any other suggestions, short of welding, for a simpler Tow Hook for my S197? Thanks!
I’ve seen several reports of the splitter strut mounts not holding up to the downforce of larger splitters. The mounts will flex down and bend. I have several Blowfish pieces on my car, and all are extremely well built. But I wouldn’t consider the strut mounts a deciding factor to seek one of these out.AND...they provided the option for splitter strut mounts
Just sent you a messageI know I have a NIB spare rear Blowfish tow hook kit (TOW-10-500) laying around here somewhere and perhaps a front one as well. If interested, PM me and I'll look around for it.
Thanks Joe. I sent a PM.Just sent you a message
Thanks a bunch, that's probably the direction that I'm going. Great details on the install. I really needed them. Thanks againI gave up on the BF piece and just bought a ZL1 hook instead. While the included instructions are lacking for sure, I was able to get some handwritten directions which clarified the install. Other than trimming the lower facia insert everything was pretty straight forward and all the included hardware worked as advertised. Good luck to you!View attachment 83857
