Zanardi - "The Pass" 22 Years Ago

That's a good one. Glad to see IndyCar going back to Laguna Seca. Also back when IndyCar was relevant.

Can someone explain why that wasn't illegal? The article said it was before "crying about track limits". So was it just not a rule back then or did everyone just live with it as long as the "passer" wasn't intentionally trying to cut the corner?

So happy to see Indy return to LS though. Can't wait for the next race there!

You kinda answered your own question. Zanardi went in deep, too deep, went off, got back on, managed to stay ahead and no one cared that he went off the track. It was just hard racing and he managed to pull it off. Could of very easily crashed instead.

F1 started the track limits thing. Nascar added no passing below the yellow line thing on the restricter plate tracks. But in the 90's it was not a rule like it is now. If you go back to the 70's there are videos of cars going straight thru the esses at Riverside. It was not really approved of but it was done, some successful, some not so much. It was a different time.
