Comment by 'Gary Smith' on the Lap time of '2:07.695' at the track 'Thunderhill Raceway Park'

I have a son named Matthew Smith - his Thill 3-mile best time is 2:07 something so I was surprised you're not him.

    Clutch break in

Exedy's break-in instructions could be improved. Driving 752 miles from Sacramento to Seattle on I5 would be less break-in than 5 miles in San Francisco traffic.

Strange Death of an OE Clutch

Thanks Mike, I see my clutch failure was maybe not as unusual as I thought, except yours was twice as good.

Strange Death of an OE Clutch

Good idea. It hadn't occurred to me that the carnage must have happened during shifts. I don't recall hearing anything. I did suspect rivet failure but it could only have been part of a rivet because all rivets are still present, although many are damaged. Almost certainly some part of the disc...

Strange Death of an OE Clutch

The original clutch in my 2017 GT failed in an unusual way. One side of the disc completely disintegrated while the other side remained in good condition. The largest fragments of the failed side are evidence that it also was relatively unworn before its sudden destruction. It appears that...

Stupid put 75W-85 in my MT-82

Thanks - I was hoping you would say that. I know almost nothing about mixing lubricants and I've heard synchros can be fussy. And I tend to worry.

Stupid put 75W-85 in my MT-82

Stupid me, that is. I grabbed the wrong red bottle and put in about 100 ml of Motorcraft Synthetic 75W-85 before I caught my mistake. This was the first additional fluid after draining the trans so some contamination remains even after draining most of it. I started over with the correct...

    Ford Racing front hub question

For Blacksheep's method to be accurate you need to subtract the torque of the unloaded breaker bar.

    Ford Racing front hub question

You can use a torque multiplier to easily reach higher torque values. Mine has 4:1 planetary gears. Great for wheel hubs and pinion nuts.

Are ABS and TCS ok with 27/26 Rear/Front Tire Diameters?

From 27 to 26 is closer to 4% than 3 but I have now driven more than 100 miles and have engaged ABS multiple times with no lights/codes so that pretty much shows that 26/27 front/rear diameter is not a problem. In case anyone is wondering, my questionable setup is front 255/40R18 on 9-inch...

Anybody know the Radius of Turn 2 at Thunderhill?

The equation G = (V^2)/R is frequently encountered in discussions of the physics of racing. This simple formula can be confusing if you don’t realize that the G does not represent units of g-force but rather circular acceleration. To get units of g-force you must divide the acceleration given by...
