Last year I found an older Spec Iron car for a song so I bought it and put it in a trailer for a rainy day. This last weekend a buddy comes over and says he has gen 3 coyote with 59k on it he is looking to get rid of. Thankfully he owed me some money already so just the excuse I needed to start a new project. I only know what I have read about track prepping a coyote so I am looking for some better direction. First this is just a track toy for me I'm not going to be w2w racing or even time trial. I am just trying to make it as reliable as I can. I assume I need to replace the timing chains and tensioners and guides, oil pump and camshaft gear, add boss alternator. What else while I have the engine on a stand? TIA

Honestly...a gen3 is a good one. I wouldn't touch it .
Just run 93 or more octane or ethanol. The secret is the cooling more than anything else.
What u said about the oil pump and friends...
Honestly maybe just the oil pump. Tensioner and guides? Maybe
Not sure about the alternator.
@steveespo might advice better though :)

If you can find a Boss alternator kit, you may want to grab one. The three things to do for reliability are cooling, cooling and cooling. Water, oil and maybe trans mission cooling. A three pass radiator, an air to air oil cooler (you can’t go too big) and if the trans gets hot, a pump and coolers. Can you add a ford performance oil pan and pump and sleep a little easier, yep. If the pan comes down also consider a crank scrapper/wiper. BTW, be careful, there are folks here that will spend your money. Not me or course:biggrin:
Good luck with the build.

I have been accused more than once of spending other peoples money so I guess what goes around comes around. I just finished reading fab mans 267 page post and it was enlightening for what can be accomplished and scary for my pocket book. Funny how a track toy can end up as fast as a race car, or faster. I think I should have posted this in s550 tech now looking back. Thanks for your input. Time to get the auto trans pulled off and put the motor on a stand and parts to buy.
