Hi. I'm new to the group and to road racing. I've taken my car to the road course a couple times. It's a 2017 PP1 with a roushcharger. Otherwise stock with motil brake fluid and hawk er-1 pads. Yesterday ambient temp was only 80 degrees and the IAT temps on my dash skyrocket to 140-165. Cylinder head temps stayed under 215 all day and coolant was normal too, though I was not running it very hard. 1-2 medium/hard laps then a cook down lap. When I purchased this car I didn't have road coursing it in mind but it's fun so here I am. But I have been trying to research, it seems that keeping supercharged cars cool is near impossible. I don't have a huge budget to fight it. Anyone on here who laps their roushcharged s550 without issues? And what did it take to get it problem free? I'm thinking of selling my car and getting a NA car with some track mods already done instead of fighting what I got. Thanks for any advice!

Things that might help until you buy a naturally aspirated car:

  • ducting to intercooler
  • switching fuel to E85 (ought to be plenty of that around Illinois) although the IAT sensor may not show reduced temperatures (not sure where the IAT sensor is located), the air/fuel combo entering the cylinders will definitely be cooler due to the higher alcohol content, and the fuel is more like 105 octane than 91 octane, all of which present obvious benefits in a supercharged car
  • carefully research upgraded intercooler options
  • way for air to escape on the backside of the intercooler, e.g, ducts out of the hood. This will help with cooling generally, too, as you get faster.
  • larger pulley on the blower to slow down the blower speed and reduce psi and temperature from compressing air
  • Smooth Boost boost controller and dial it all the way down when on the road course <--- this might let you keep the car, track it at low boost setting, and have full boost available off of the road course, too.



I would do all of those things before ditching a car I like for another.

Many of us on here would tell you to save your budget, take off the Supercharger and run with stock 5.0 liter for now. Running with a Supercharger tends to be a constant work in progress to reduce heat, conquer heat soak and more. Take off the unit, sell it and now you have a new budget , ha. Welcome to TMO and you will enjoy this Forum as folks are always willing to help.
